PMDG nickel & diming their 737 liveries

Yeah. With you there. Seems more like an Asobo/Marketplace issue. Not PMDG.

A very valid point.

Sounds like something the head captain "Rob Razz" would say. Blame Jorg and not himself.

Those siding with PMDG, believing they are not ripping off xbox users with multiple random liveries packs, when they can absolutley provide ALL the liveries in 1 pack..

Would you be singing this tune if same tactics were applied to PC users...?

They already made the PC liveries.  My point is that it may be a lot more work to make them compatible with Xbox.  This takes time.  And people who make them should be compensated.

And this sounds like someone finding another excuse to bash a developer a lot of us appreciate.

Maybe there's something about this that we don't know?

I've just seen 4Simmers offering on MSFS Marketplace a 90-livery pack at 7.62 GB in size, available on Xbox (as well as PC).

It might be worth pointing out that the sizes quoted at the Marketplace are installed sizes and not the size of the file to be downloaded.

What proof do you have for that statement? Chris Makris of PMDG technical support specifically said that if they were to put all available 737 liveries in one file, it would exceed the allowable size limits for a single file on the Marketplace.

If you want to essentially call the man a liar, then have the courage to go to their own support forum and say it to his face.

This is what I have an issue with. It would be easy for MS to just say "Nope, not true" and PMDG would be royally screwed. Outright lying about it doesn't make sense.

Someone already made a good point about the size on the marketplace being shown as disk space, i.e. when installed. This could easily be double the download size or more, so saying other files on the marketplace are much bigger is probably a fallacy.

Wow, emotions getting the better? Me calling your much vaulted flight sim addon maker a lair is not what I was saying at all, esstentially or any other misconstrued way you might want to phrase it.

I understand there is a limit on how large a *single file* can be *in a package for Xbox* - 1GB. A single texture doesnt come in that large and so the 'package size' argument doesn't add up.

But given the charged emotions in here from PMDG gatekeepers, that might send them completely off the edge!

I am not a “PMDG gatekeeper”, and I am not misconstruing anything.

PMDG’s own tech support people have stated clearly that putting all their liveries for XBox in “one pack” would exceed the maximum file size allowed on the Marketplace.

You, on the other hand, said:

“Those siding with PMDG, believing they are not ripping off xbox users with multiple random liveries packs, when they can absolutley provide ALL the liveries in 1 pack..

You made a clear statement of fact that contradicts what PMDG has said. If that is not calling PMDG “liars” I don’t know what is.. How do you know that they “can absolutely provide ALL the liveries in one pack”?

First, we wouldn’t have to worry about it either way because we have so many talented artists that would paint for free anyways.

Second…as said before, they’re a business.

Third…have you ever owned a gaming console? You really want to buy an external hard drive for $100 to add 10+GB of liveries? You probably have at least 5 other games on there that exceed 80GB of space. You really want a Spirit (fictional) livery that you’re never ever going to use? I’d rather pay $5 for a few liveries that fit my desired routes. Plus, this funding will potentially help fund R&D for new planes.

They are ripping you off, thats basically the gist.

All the points the previous poster made and all the products they pointed out flies in the face of what they are saying. But thats ok, us humans have a way of of simply ignoring the facts to suit us.

I used to be excited for picking up the 600 on xbox but I'm no longer bothering. Im sticking to PC as and when I decide to play because its been a massive fustercluck trying to enjoy this sim the last few years, topped off with a brand new announcement.

I guess im just tired of constantly trying to get the game to work as it should, dealing with gatekeepers, dealing with sensitive moderators on the official forum, the arguing, the finger pointing, the lot.

Maybe one day we will get a game we can just turn on and enjoy without all the drama.

Never happen, a group of whiners will descend and start finding something wrong with it, even if they have to make it up.

There was a lengthy post on their forums about this. Packaging everything as one exceeded the flile size limits for Marketplace files. I don't think the marketplace was designed for these sorts of things at all.

There’s a few 25 GB mesh packs in marketplace, size really isn’t an issue. Each PMDG 737 pack is about 3GB

The packs could be 1 or 2 packs or sold at discount as a bundle like many of the other livery bundles already are.

For something (the livery release and pricing) that’s apparently taken a long time to resolve, this current method of selling them as smaller packs and charging for each one separately is pretty much the worst way to deliver these packs cheaply to Xbox users when they’re free on PC.
