PMDG nickel & diming their 737 liveries

I am not a “PMDG gatekeeper”, and I am not misconstruing anything.

PMDG’s own tech support people have stated clearly that putting all their liveries for XBox in “one pack” would exceed the maximum file size allowed on the Marketplace.

You, on the other hand, said:

“Those siding with PMDG, believing they are not ripping off xbox users with multiple random liveries packs, when they can absolutley provide ALL the liveries in 1 pack..

You made a clear statement of fact that contradicts what PMDG has said. If that is not calling PMDG “liars” I don’t know what is.. How do you know that they “can absolutely provide ALL the liveries in one pack”?

This is quite obviously not the case, each pack is only 2-3 gb each.

They could be combined or sold discounted as a bundle, like most other livery packs are in marketplace.

I’m not saying they’re lying (before you start on me either) but they’ve apparently not looked very hard into how to deliver these packs as cheaply as possible.

As above, there’s numerous 24gb items in marketplace.

I wonder if actual, more "casual" Xbox customers are as upset as people on PC are about something completely irrelevant to them or if those Xbox customers just decide to buy or not to buy and get on with their day.

Not sure what decides whether we’re only casual or serious customers but you can check the Xbox PMDG discord if you want, but I can summarise for you. . . .  we’re happy there’s a PMDG 73 on Xbox  but unhappy with the odd control system PMDG have created for Xbox controller, the old nav data that can’t be updated and way the liveries have been released.

It is possible to set a price of $0.00 according to MS SDK documentation -

https://docs.flightsimulator.com/html/Developer_Mode/Project_Editor/Marketplace_Data.htm

Catalog Price: This is the price (in US dollars) of the add-on on the Marketplace. This can be free ($0.00) or can be between $4.99 and $149.99.

That's technical though isn't it? Doesn't mean there can't be legal reasons why types of addons can't be free.

Still having trouble wrapping my head around the idea they are making up lies about how another company's system works to justify their prices if MS could just bust them with a single sentence.

What proof do you have for that statement? Chris Makris of PMDG technical support specifically said that if they were to put all available 737 liveries in one file, it would exceed the allowable size limits for a single file on the Marketplace.

If you want to essentially call the man a liar, then have the courage to go to their own support forum and say it to his face.

I guess this would be easy enough to find out! Add up all the data from all the livery packages and check the total file size, if it's smaller than what's available for free, you'll have your answer!

That doesn't help because the size on the marketplace is installed size, not the size of the uploaded zip-file.

avsimers must be bored, this meaningless topic going on to week number 4.

PMDG can do pretty much whatever they want with *their* product. In this case, they provided a perfectly believable explanation on why it's done, citing rules of the marketplace that demonstrably exist (which they didn't even need to do, mind you).

If one doesn't like the pricing, they always have the option not to buy.

Also, I don't think I've read something as nonsensical this week as putting PMDG and Captainsim in the same sentence, and I have to read more nonsensical thing thans most for a living.

Zero effort still from PMDG to actually deliver these liveries “as cheaply as possible” on Xbox. We still have the PMDG liveries (that have been released) appearing in numerous small packages all still priced highly for liveries with no bundles still and no discounts. We have had a vague commitment to possibly bundle them in a discounted package in the future once all the liveries have been released, which is pretty disappointing tbh.

The marketplace is already full of all sorts of discounted liveries, livery bundles and discounted products on release, plus items that are over ten times the size of these livery packs.

The excuses from PMDG cheerleaders and gatekeepers in here are quite obviously nonsensical.

Flight Sim on a console. Unfortunately this was inevitable to have some short comings. Liveries are a drop in a bucket.

Sure but in this case, the livery short comings are down to decisions made by PMDG and not “inevitable” and entirely avoidable.

It just seems unfair to Xbox owners that we PC owners can get them for free, when they will have to pay for them.  Surely that is the crux of the matter.  I am sure PMDG and MS / Asobo could sort this out with a bit of effort.

Of course not. Anytime PMDG see’s an opportunity to charge people, regardless what it is, they’ll do their best to “milk” it. The livery packs are just a classic example of this.

Frankly I’m surprised the upcoming EFB will be free…

(I own all PMDG products for P3D and MSFS before I’m labelled a PMDG basher.)

Kinda shocked the EFB is free also and I own too many PMDG products to boot.
