July 24, 20232 yr Also, many (if not all and more) of the questions I see here are fully addressed in their online interview, well worth the listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPCGzjy7qC0&t=6s CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro | GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

July 24, 20232 yr That’s pretty impressive progress. They are going to have to teach AI some of the more ATC specific interpretations of aviation abbreviations like saying “runway” instead of “R - W” and “Sid” rather than “Side”. Unfortunately there’s no hope for the pronunciation of some of the procedure or fix names 😆. Heck, most pilots are guessing the first time they try. Chris

July 24, 20232 yr This is one of those uses of AI that makes you go "wow" - the dev is certainly taking ATC to the next level. Amazing project. The one thing I worry about is that MS might be doing the same thing in MS 2024. MSFS is a showcase for MS technologies: Azure, Bing Maps, big data, cloud architecture, etc... Interactive large language models like Bing Chat (aka Chat GPT) are the "next big thing" at MS. This is such a perfect example of how to effectively incorporate and utilize that technology, and such an obvious way for MSFS to continue to serve as a poster child for the MS ecosystem that it would be shocking if Asobo WEREN'T already working on exactly this same approach to ATC. Innovation is always great and you can't let "whatifs" hold you back, but I almost hope Asobo doesn't improve ATC in MSFS 2024 so this dev has a chance to realize the fruits of their labor.

Its very realistic compared to vatsim 😅 with pilots just cutting people off asking for taxi before I can even read back what the controller told me
July 24, 20232 yr Mmh not sure about that. Voices is only one part of the equation, what's more important is variance in WHAT is said. I mean right in beginning of the video you hear two AI aircraft calling for clearance, both with exactly the same (uncommon) phrase "Looking for IFR clearance...", also every other call seems to have the exact same words. If every call has the exact same structure, this is going to get old very fast, no matter how natural the voices are. Or MS/Asobo hires this dev to manage full integration of his handiwork into MSFS seamlessly. Of course MS would have to pony up what this guy might potentially earn selling copies of Beyond ATC on top of a very handsome salary contract. July 24, 20232 yr Have they mentioned anything about long haul flights when you leave your plane in cruise and come back some 8 hours later? Is there some option about where the atc would pick right back up where you left off?
July 24, 20232 yr This is a mess. All the AI traffic is sent to 26L/R for takeoff while the user aircraft is sent to 08L. To cap it all an AI aircraft is cleared for takeoff on 26R right at the moment the user just started his takeoff roll on 08L. They have a long way to go. Edited July 24, 20232 yr by RALF9636

Listen to or read the interview with the developer, it has been addressed several times in several different venues.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
