Beta 2 is out.

and with it still there: minecraft clouds, repetitive cloud patterns, antialiasing on aircraft frame against background, contrails staying alive forever.

still enjoying minecraft clouds while they last:

long live contrails!

phenom3000-khts-kbgre8ufzt.png

repeat after me: repetitive cloud patterns.

phenom3000-khts-kbgreyxfdj.png

antialiasing, as ever.

other than that, very smooth 65-75 fps @ 4k resolution - fl 330 - under certain conditions. tm

It's a performance bug with the particle system. Dense particles like those used in fires etc. bring all GPUs to their knees. I don't know if LR is aware of the bug.

as well as the night lighting,  yes they are aware.

You'll find that's called aliasing. But hey, I'm surprised you managed to start the sim and report the framerate, not give us your main menu FPS.

thanks for your kind enlightenment.

I think by now, after using x-plane 12 for such a long time, we all know that anti-aliasing is a technique to avoid aliasing. and by now we all know that x-plane 12 suffers from a lack of proper anti-aliasing. yet we have come to use the term anti-aliasing when we refer to x-plane's lack thereof.

Yes, thus just saying "antialiasing, as ever" makes no sense, as that would imply anti-aliasing was always in place and there was no aliasing to be found. So your desperate attempt to save face ain't gonna work, bub.

I think it's the first time I'm seeing these storm fronts with dark clouds that make me want to fly into them and see what happens.

go ahead! report when/if back on the ground. I encountered something similar totally unexpectedly, the cauliflower cumulus developed out of nowhere in mere minutes, not forecasted in an otherwise clear sky, in a small unpressurized C172 in real life, had to climb to 14.000 to get through and above them. any higher and that would have been the end of it. up there not much room for turns (spin/stall), no more power left to climb any further. was horrible. next time I'd rather take the anti-aliasing. 🤣

it had all begun so nicely earlier today:

and then, after un-pausing x-plane12 beta 6.02 after a 2 hours lunch break, this again again.

crashreport2chiv3.png

back to my other simulator that hasn't crashed in over a year. yes I know it's a beta. has it ever not been?

Do you have this phrase set up as a shortcut key, or maybe a button on a Stream Deck?  If not it must be hell having to type this 1,000 times a year.

as long as it is denied. and as long as they claim it got fixed.

fyi: I got a reprimand for not submitting a bug report earlier, and I get a reprimand for submitting bug reports. go figure.

sent it automatically to Austins weekend emergency hotline via built-in crash reporter tool:

--=={This application has crashed!}==--

my suspicion from above error.log: WMR (Windows Mixed Reality) for my VR headset sometimes, after longer pauses not using it, shuts the headset down to protect the built-in LCD screens against burn-in effects, and x-plane's 2D-window has automatically resized to a lower resolution than my full 4K I had it before the crash. perhaps that's the problem and they need to make x-plane more robust against such unforeseen, unexpected resolution changes.

When will be the antialiasing addressed? 12.07? For now, 4x MSAA or the heavier 8x won't make any difference with my RTX 3080ti in 12.06b2, and FXAA with 2k monitor doesn't look good to me.
