Commanche question

Recommended Posts

I do love A2A products and I've had several over the years.  However, I would like to purchase the Commanche 250 and I've been watching various video reviews and other forum threads regarding this beautiful, carbureted airplane.  HOWEVER, I do not want to fly this plane as a "study level" plane.  My question is this:  Can you just Ctrl E this plane and fly it?  Are there any options or choices in the setup so that you can have the myriad of controls and switches appropriately set so that you can just enjoy the plane?  I don't want to come off as lazy or unwilling to learn the intricacies of piloting this plane, but that's simply a question that I wish to ask.

I don't think Ctrl E will work, but there's an auto start button in the tablet.

Hi @spilok, I can tell you you're not alone.

I am a poor old guy who just wants an authentic flight model and good avionics and such, but I am not into checking color of the oil, engine failures, adapting several turbulence settings, setting hobbs hours per livery, and such.

We're certainly in the minority, but I'd like to hear if there are at least a few more more of us. Which might bring me to buy the plane, finally.

Kind regards, Michael

The Tablet gives many options that allow a customized simple set up.

You can choose Ready for Take Off, you can  turn Damage & 'Incidents' off.

You can customize each aircraft & have it retain the settings for that aircraft.

Strongly recommend you download the Operating Manual from the A2A MSFS Comanche web site & read the section on what the Tablet options can do as regards setting up a 250 to suit how you would like to fly it. Although there is a lot of depth & complexity you don't have to engage with that to enjoy the aircraft. You can turn much of it Off,

Yea, I really have to commend A2A. This is the first aircraft I have flown in MSFS that I can trim up, down and for level flight and it works, and it works as I would anticipate it to work. It's flight model is a joy to fly. But they have also made it fall along a continuum from complex -- monitoring so many aspects of the airframe and engine -- to quite simple, being able to turn failures and incidents off and just start it up with a click of the button on the tablet. They tried hard to make it available and enjoyable to a wide range of customers and I think they succeeded. You do need to read a little at the start to know what options there are and set the simulation up, but it will do what you are looking for. Since it runs pretty much entirely outside the sim, shortcuts like CTR-E will likely not work at all, but the tablet, that interfaces between he external program and MSFS, gives all the functionality you are looking for.

Its the best GA aircraft in MSFS currently. IMHO.

Op. Manual is very informative.

AP is very interesting & works well once you figure out that keyboard "Z" cycles through AP options, ilo turning the AP On & Off.

There is a separate AP manual for those into detail, but the Op. manual has a section on the SEC AP.

Don't be put off by the AP😀, the aircraft is a delight to fly.

Turbulence setting : you do not have to adapt anything. The Comanche comes with the proper setting. You change it if you want to but it wouldn't make much sense as it works quite well with the Asobo turb setting on realistic.

Engine failure : hearing all the sudden the engine going rough, checking with the tablet that a cylinder behaves badly, spices up a flight. Don't ask me how I know it.

The a/p is very rudimentary so you need to be involved in the navigation.

This aircraft keeps you busy.

But you have a lot of options on the tablet which can make your life easier.

If you want an aircraft in a sim, that flies like a real aircraft, get the Comanche. If that isn't important to you, then get something else.

Thanks guys, that sounds promising. I rarely use the AP (if there's one available at all) in the GA planes I fly, so I could deal with this later.

BTW, I can (and usually do) start the H145 using the tablet as well, so this should be similar.

I might give it a start over the weekend.

Kinds regards, Michael

Comanche is very easy to start - set (fuel selector, mixture, throttle, prop), prime (primer. fuel pump), start (mags, starter). Think about you various people who come to learn to fly without any prior knowledge of aviation. They get by somehow. Also you don't need to have PhD to fly LOL  I had tons of students with all walks of life and ages ranged from 80th to 18. I even had student who had PhD in physics! However, up to this day I had only one student who aced private written test and scored 100%. He was UPS truck driver LOL

I just selected a runway and the aeroplane loaded in with engines running so no problem!

Yes, I’m with you I like “study level” aircraft because of the time and effort that’s been put into their flight modelling to make it authentic. I often don’t have the time and motivation to learn all the ins and outs of the systems.

Plus when I return to things like DCS in autumn after my summer break from simming I find I can’t even remember how to start the engines.

Re the Comanche, I just start on the runway , engine running and fly it from what I can recall from the P3D version, so far it’s been great.

For what it is worth, I found this plane very easy to learn.  I picked it up last weekend and didn't have a lot of time to go digging through the manual.  I was up and flying in no time.  You can download the manual ahead of time and look it over.  All you need is the normal procedure checklist, which are 2 pages (really 1.5 with an image).

There's just a few little things you need to learn, like plugs fouling.  If you just set the plugs to "fine", you don't even need to worry about that.

I shy away from the complex aircraft, just because of the time to learn them (and how easy it is to forget so I need to re-learn), but even I was able to get up and running with this no problem.  It is realistic, but it is also just a small, single engine piper.  Pretty much any other complex aircraft I've tried to fly the first time ends in (virtual) tragedy.

This was really easy, and more importantly, rewarding.

That tablet is money. Just remember to do the easy walk around to pull covers, chocks and tiedowns. Will be interesting trying to taxi if not. Follow the start checklist and blast off. You are going to love it.

I have a friend who obtained a PPL in the UK, who to this day has no idea how an internal combustion engine works.
He knows how to manage his aircraft engine, but not why he needs to.
If you do understand one and that if it is supplied with fuel, air and electricity, it will start and run, then the pre-flight and
in-flight settings are much easier to understand.
My guess would be that your truck driver was the only one who did, as he would have needed to, to keep his truck rolling.
The engine behaviour in Accusim is one of its strongest features.
