MSFS is a pain

I have to resist the assumption it's something on my end.  I think a lot of weird random and thankfully rare performance woes coming out of nowhere are on the server side.  IOW, be patient if you can it will probably resolve itself in a fairly short time.

I think I had a memory leak because I never cleared my cache after installing new World Updates. The lack of visible simobjects is probably because I turned up my AIG AI traffic to 75% while still using GSX boarding at an airport like the iniBuilds LAX. If I just avoid GSX boarding and turn down my AI traffic I think I might avoid breaking the limit.

Hopefully all of this will be solved in 2024. I'm hoping the "simobject limit" will be limitless and all memory leaks are fixed with the new terrain. Fingers crossed. 🤞

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

I have been one staunch apologist for MS/Asobo but I too will be troubled if they don't nail down several loose ends we're all quite aware of for the 2024 release, those 'aeronautical/simulation' shortcomings that have been left somewhat in placeholder status for 3y now.  More glitz sells for sure but it will be a disappointment if element are left in their current state.

Have you ran DDU(Display Driver Uninstaller)? You can't swap GPUs and just install drivers hoping for the best. Drivers leave a lot of registry entries that need the be properly cleaned out.

This.. doesn't make any sense at all. Surprisingly 4090 is the only 40 gen card I would suggest getting if you had the money.

Horrible suggestion, from the 1080 the 4070 would be a huge improvement for 100% of his games.

I think it's an urban myth in large part.  Early on a ran a poll here because of complaints about the Store version.  Squeaky wheels make a lot of noise...

Lies, word not allowed lies and statistics there, Noel.

First off, where are the responses for:

  • Failed install that was resolved without any MS Support
  • Failed install that was never resolved and you purchased the Steam version (which is what I resorted to doing after two complete wipes at update time, necessitating full reinstallations of the game)
  • Failed install that was never resolved and you never returned to the franchise

Secondly, 12% is not a large percentage. However, it is a large number if extrapolating—potentially some 1.44 million people of the 12 million users that have used MSFS (per Jörg's claims).
I don't think that extrapolating from just 57 people makes for a sound case. Likewise, there were far, far more than just 7 people complaining on various social media platforms of facing MSFS install issues with the MS Store version.

Lastly, the survey only captures those responses from people that: a) saw the poll before it closed; b) felt sufficiently motivated to reply before it closed; and, c) told the truth when replying.

Certainly, the majority of people did not have a problem. Yet, calling MS Store difficulties an urban myth is disingenuous, especially when using such a limited dataset to form that opinion.

Sounds like these issues are from the MS store version. My steam version has been rock solid since release day.

I also got hit by the 'Please Insert the MSFS Game Disc' message yesterday, for the first time.  MSFS worked fine the day before and I hadn't made any changes to the game or my system since, so it was definitely a frustrating surprise.

I use the MS Store (Game Pass) version and the error resolved itself after about an hour, so I imagine it had something to do with lots of people rushing to make purchases on the marketplace before the big sale came to an end.

My main outcome was that when I could finally log in it thought this was a brand new install and defaulted everything

Of course it's imperfect, only 3 months after release.  But unequivocally it says 88% had no significant issues w/ their store install and dealing with updates, and that is HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT.

A poll is a statistical tool which needs to be scientifically defined to say anything. This one is utter rubbish and doesn't say anything one way or another. The reality is that almost every problem of the kind Rob has, surfacing in the forums, are related to the MS Store version.

This is, in a way, normal for two reasons :

- the ratio of MS store version over the Steam version is , I presume, enormously in favor of the former.

- the MS Store version UI was more convoluted and has disoriented many people. No bug here, just user-unfriendliness.

but  the MS version also appears more fragile specially in the start sequence (before entering).

I thought that for a little while and it turned out to be a region poorly done.  I'm struck by how sharp and plausible it is currently for me most areas look as good as ever.  I'm using 4x legacy DSR factors which probably helps.

Give me a break, will you ? The team has acknowledged that huge portions of the planet have been replaced by offline textures because of a LOD issue in the images. Then flying over some areas also brings about popping tiles. This was the case recently NE of Ajaccio in Corsica,

Yes, there are wonderful places to fly. I fly in every continent all the time.  I know. But less than at release. And the trend doesn’t seem to go in the right direction,.

Im currently flying KSAN - CYVR and I have to say, the sim is more plagued with bugs than ever before. White borders around screens, a mouse pointer that disappears and scenery/tile popping that was certainly not as bad months ago. I have to think it's server related. I just really, really hope this stuff gets sorted before 2024. I'm definitely going to be purchasing the next iteration of this platform, but it's gonna be a really big bummer if these bugs persist between now and then.

58 votes from 12 million users nearly 3 years ago is anything BUT highly significant 🤣🤣🤣 sorry Noel but that poll is about as useful as washing tablet in the ocean 😉

I’m not suggesting he get a 4090, but the price/performance on the 40 series is atrocious with the exception of the 4090 is what I’m saying.

I don't count on it. It is likely some of the issues will be solved but others will remain and some new ones will pop up. As with everything man-made, it won't be perfect.
