3060TI @90FPS - Time to Upgrade?

Featured Replies

I will give my answer as NO but others may think otherwise.

For starters I use LOD 150 and fly is spare areas like Alaska Which is part of the reason I get good frames at altitude in the HJet.

I'm on the fence with Frame Gen but think that it could be useful but @ 90 FPS I'm happy.  CPU is a 5900x which I'm also happy with.

Panning is smooth as glass with no vsync.  Also, DX12 is the best.

Cheers

I have a 4090, and I don't even use Frame Generation because performance is so good with MSFS.

If you have the money....

But, personally, I doubt I can't get these performances even in FSX. Not sure about FS9. 90 FPS is more than I can dream about (but I fly airliners and I like to go to international airports)...

Everyone should keep in mind that, if you're going to use more than 60fps, you'll need a video monitor/display/TV capable of generating more than 60fps.

There is no reson to upgrade if you get 90fps,180fps won't make it any better, I get 60-70 fps Ultra with DX11, I don't use FG even if I can, it is to many quirks and bad vram usage with DX12 for my liking.

Should you upgrade??  I cant help but think this is troll posting.  I am about to pull the trigger on a completely new system for $2,100 US and am hoping to hit 60 FPS.

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB

Back in the day 20 fps was the default refresh rate for FSX.  If you got above that you were good to go.  Then it became 30 fps with some arguing that 24 fps was the holy grail as it is what hollywood has been using for nearly 100 years.  Now 60 fps seems to have replaced 30 fps and many are also extolling the virture of 100 plus fps that can be achieved with any system fitted with a 4000 series GPU and FG.  Myself I am still delighted if fps never dips below 30 anything higher is a bonus.  I have three screens one refreshes at 30 hertz another at 60 hertz and the third at 144 hertz and I can't see any difference.

Since I bought the RTX 4090 I immediately understood that 4k is a must to have and that from now on I would only buy the best GPU that exists.

Is this at 4K  ??

I run in 4K with a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and 3060Ti GPU.  In most complex areas with complex aircraft, PMDG eg, I get anywhere between 30 and 60FPS with a mixture of High and Ultra and an LOD of 150.

I love it and won't be upgrading any time soon.

Aside from that, I believe MSFS2024 will be further optimised so I reckon the 3060Ti has a bit of life left in her yet.

And  just FYI, I've never jumped on the must have the highest FPS bandwagon.

Whether you should upgrade or not depends on whether you want to run the simulator at higher detail levels. If you are not interested in cranking up the visual fidelity, then 90fps sounds perfectly fine to me!

Personal choice in the end, and budget constraints.

I've just updated my rig coming from i7 4790k + 1070, this is a system which is about 8/9 years old (I think) and in FSX/P3D/XPlane and MSFS flying the big irons into heavy international aiports with moderate AI or Vatsim has been a poor experience giving me on most occasions 10-20FPS on final approach with stutters especially on touchdown.  I've suffered this for years and thought enough is enough!

I managed to finance a new build about 4 weeks ago, 7800X3D + 4090 and oh my word............!  Now purely from an overly indulgent point of view I have sliders far right, Frame Gen on and grin like a cheshire cat flying into inibuilds EGLL, with moderate AI, in the Fenix A320 busting out 50-60FPS and its butter smooth!!  Outside of major hubs and at cruise its around 100+FPS, I still can't comprehend it.

This is hooked to my new Gigabyte M28U 4K display running at 144hz and its a thing of beauty, I keep asking the missus to "have a look at this" but she can't see what I can see hahaha!!

Considering your about 600/800 wattage for every flight, maybe it's better to buy real flight lessons in real planes.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

Haha probably not.  I mean I recommend real flying but the cost at least, in the US, to rent is probably near 200 an hour.
