Asobo — Please fix these weather bugs before MSFS2024

And they keep on telling us that. I guess so many times, until we believe it. But the fact is flying is 50% weather, at least.

Every sim that has ventured to go the volumetric cloud route has encountered these issues. I cannot think of any that has nailed down all of the things you outlined in a truly dynamic environment. To try to suggest that MSFS is not made for simmers because of this is a bit of a stretch.

I don't think Asobo is going to see this thread. It would have been better to post it over on the official forums in the suggestion section.

I meant to address that in my first post. There already are several posts on this topic - but my main aim was to draw other people’s attention to it here, in the hope that they might vote on the topic in the official forums.

I’m not going to lie, my secondary hope was that Joerg, Seb or someone else might come across the topic here, take note, and mention it in passing in one of their meetings this morning (leading to an immediate strike team response and fix 😄).

I think the problem with clouds is not just unique to MSFS, X-plane is also struggling to get it right, and I think its because they all have one cloud rendering technique that they are trying to use to create the numerous cloud types and its not working or they haven't figured it out yet. Maybe that's why LM also did away with true sky for P3DV6.

True, but the point I’m trying by to make is that what we had originally was far superior to what we have now. Maybe less performant, they’d know better what the overall impact was, based on the platform in its current state, but visually so much more satisfying.

In Sept. '21 (Q&A from Sept. 29) he said: Weather for us is a Big Deal. It is something we are heavily, heavily investing in. I think with Meteoblue we have a great partner. Late this year you will get this first Update (remark: SU7), we’re planning on another which will be really awesome when it happens. It will probably be in 2022, it could be as late as 2023. Weather is one of those things. It’s where planes live, it’s got to be awesome. We will get it as good as you can get it. That is really the goal.

Back in Nov. 2022 he announced talks with Meteoblue about data resolution (snow coverage!), WXradar API and “future features” and promised to inform about the outcome in early 2023 - never happened.
Instead the last Q&A delivered some vague statements hinting at opening the weather API for third parties, which was sacrosanct from the beginning. Then the announcement of MSFS 2024.

Can you see why I don't trust in these PR statements anymore?

I hope we can post questions and vote for them for the upcoming Q&A. This would be a good topic and I‘m sure it‘d get quite a lot of votes. As you nicely showed, they‘ve been kicking this particular can down the road for a long time now. But to be honest, I don‘t have high hopes for improvements soon. I just hope MSFS2024 will surprise us.

The other topic I‘d like to be discussed is aerial tile-swapping.

My biggest issue is when there are thunderstorms... the Doppler radar and meteoblue show there are large scale storm areas with lots of imbeded red returns that are large in area.  But in MSFS there is a line of small cumlus clouds with a small drizzle of rain coming out of it.  So where the hell is it getting its data from?  Whats annoying is that the games itself can depict this correctly but realworld weather never can.   The problem is that MSFS always underplays the amount of clouds in a given area.  Clouds and weather have regressed for sure since SU 8.  It's all about XBOX,  XBOX sucks, it has no power.  It can't hang with a PC so everything has to be dulled down. MSFS2024 will be lackluster.  Look at the screen shots.  Clouds look the same and we still have that #$#%^% line through the horizon.

We know the weather system has been improved for 2024, so it's possible some of these issues have been fixed in that at least.

+ 10.0000 👏👏🤝

In My humble opinion the OP-post should be pinned here at avsim and THE Official-msfs- forums!!! *some of the other users posts* should be included as Background info in the OP-post as well..

it absolutely NEEDS the exposure! to get the issues FIXED..

I have now long given up hope *for weather engine improvements* in MSFS-2020??? 😵💫😭😭😱😵

ALL odds are now for MSFS-2024 to redeem it' self and again show former glory 🤐🤔🤔🤔🤔😬

BTW I STILL HOPE! for changes

(but it is faded out for MSFS-2020 sadly),

"and I still have a half-full glass"  (🍺🍻)

ESPECIALLY for the MSFS-2024 Version.....

The Weather/Atmospherics/cloudscapes WAS THE MSFS-2020 SIM.... in my humble opinion!

The other std. features was just a nice bonus/frosting on the cake on top.. Other sims also had theese as a option, if you wanted, but not *out of the box default* though...

I'm just SAD and Terrible dissapointed... that...

I NEVER EXPERIENCED "the true sim" that was a fantastic dynamic living thing... 😭😭😭😢 all the pre simupdate-4/5 stuff

(VR Flighsim guy said he experinenced *a low marinelayer/fog* moving/creeping in on shore side *in real time*.. back in su3/4) in one of his videoes back then.

All the Feature showcases of REAL- weather/ Atmospherics/haze/ozone layers I have never seen or experienced...

But the pictures and videoes from users TELL A MILLION WORDS "to me"

it's been heavily downgraded and regressed it seems.. but WHY???? for performace? The PC version SHOULD have been unchanged on the port/build to x-box (I do not blame xbox users, for years I only used xbox/Playstation for Racing-games..)

I'm not angry just Terribly SAAAD..... 😔😔😔😪😭

Dovetail version of MS-sim reincarnation that flopped... IT also had **True-sky environment**

it also looked incredible.. but it came at a HEAVY COST to my rigs performance.. But they never removed the quality at ULTRA settings..

I'm QUITE tempted to join as *early as possible testing*(early Alfa?) for MSFS2024...

But then again I Will probably be "soo let down of the sim again, that might loose interest totally" IF the sim changes too drastically AGAIN... as we have seen happen with MSFS-2020 ? 😵💫😲

But a part of me also tells me that MSFS-2024 WILL NOT do the SAME *Mistakes* again... And the team is REALLY STRONG NOW especially with *Andrey Solomykin*(Lead dev from IL2) and also SEB Wloch , and I sence it is *a genuine effort* to improve the sim for us... ????

(Sorry for beeing *a master of longwindedness* I 100% excell at that.. 😂😳)

I think it's safe to say they have a "leg up" on MSFS2024 because thru experience they learn what NOT to do.  Asobo had never made a flight sim before (back when they made 2020), but now they have that experience to fall back on.  I think they did a great job considering their inexperience.

I went to MSFS2020 Official Forum to help: *VOTE*

But I think the two highlighted posts *are Locked* or atleast has had *The VOTE possiblility* removed.... 🤔🤐🤐🤐😔

The voting system has been heavily missused for the WRONG things! or too move the exposure somewhere else... 😔

And the REAL problem posts are just NOT getting *any exposure*

Especially *those posts* that Try to help! and also provide background info for the issues at task.. they just end up **as a merged post** by moderators *with a wrong or too different similar type posting..*
