August 20, 20232 yr Author Living in California myself, I see TV news for a couple days showing people near LA and San Diego using sand bags and digging barriers. August 20, 20232 yr Not funny if you read this and live nearby. Better a false alarm than dead The core of Tropical Storm Hilary is just a few hours away from Southern California. Conditions are worsening, with light morning rain giving way to heavier downpours. More than 9 million people are under flash flood warnings in Los Angeles. Hilary is expected to cause "catastrophic and life-threatening" floods in parts of California and Nevada, where a year’s worth of rain could fall on Sunday alone. Hilary is already lashing Baja California in Mexico, where at least one person has died in the storm. A hurricane warning is in effect for a roughly 300-mile stretch of the peninsula. August 20, 20232 yr I live in North Hollywood (10 miles from downtown LA). As of 4:09 P.M., the rain is moderately heavy. Just walked to get a cup of coffee and I could see the streets starting to flood. I can easily see this storm is going to be problematic for a lot of people, especially in areas prone to mud slides. August 21, 20232 yr Author I saw a news article online that had a video on its page. August 21, 20232 yr Used to live in Oxnard. The area is like a saucer, so with heavy rain everything floods. The Santa Clara River is a major waterway, but around Oxnard many homeless live in the waterway (it's pretty much channelized) so they better have gotten out of there. I see that Wings Over Camarillo got canxed. scott s. .
