Fenix hang flying KTPA - KCLT three times in a row

Featured Replies

I have no idea what is going on here. I've made 3 attempts to fly the Fenix from KTPA (inibuilds) to KCLT (FSDT) in the past 2 days, and all 3 times the airplane became partially unresponsive at the same exact point in the flight.

I'm using the Fenix American Airlines livery N118US flying the route KTPA BAYPO1 CAMJO TWINS PONZE BANKR3 KCLT (today, it was AA flight 2386). For two of the flights, I had a runway 01R departure, and the third was a runway 01L departure.

Everything worked exactly as it should on all 3 flights until I was just about to pass ECAKE, which is the 3rd waypoint in the SID. The plane starts to bank left as it crosses ECAKE and then "freezes" requiring me to restart the flight. I put freezes in quotes because the sim itself is not frozen (all menus, ATC, etc. still work), the Fenix EFB is not frozen, and the buttons and knobs in the airplane can still be moved. I can click the AP button and the light goes on and off. I can move all of the knobs, but none of the displays change. The ground below is not moving, the ND shows a climb attitude, and the VSI is showing a climb rate, but the altitude tape stops scrolling. There is no indication on the ND that the plane is moving in relation to the course line, but if I go the the route page on the nav map in the EFB, I can see the aircraft doing a slow turn to the left (off course) consistent with the bank angle and speed shown on the ND.

I flew the route in the PMDG 738 and it was 100% normal. No problems at all.

Has anyone else seen anything like this? If anyone has time to try this flight, I would appreciate it if you could let me know if you can pass ECAKE without the airplane freezing up. Not sure what my next step will be. It might be an uninstall - re-install of the Fenix.

Why don’t you take this same text and post it on the Fenix Discord. The experts (developers) hang out there and are quick to answer questions and to solve problems. Also, they would probably appreciate knowing about this just in case it’s not you, but Fenix that’s causing that failure. Good luck, she’s a great bird!

Good idea getting on their Discord. It does sound to me like you have some sort of scenery issue.

KTPA is by VerticalSim.  How much RAM do you have?

I used to go from JFK premium to FlyTampa Boston with FSLTL at 120 ac in the FBW A32NX, and upon descent into Boston it would crash everytime.

Once I went to 32GB no problem.

It literally could be anything, but is unlikely to be the Fenix A320.

Dial back your settings significactly, , take a different route, no traffic and see if you can make the flight.  Made the flight? Not the Fenix.

FSLTL can cause random crashes, so can the server itself.  Another thing could be FENIX when it's overloaded with traffic.

Hundreds of flights with FSLTL, zero crashes.

I am flying the route right now. About 15 miles from ECAKE.  Will report what happens

Just crossed ECAKE without issue. Now tracking outbound to  WILON

Descending into KCLT. No issues so far

Passing HEKAM, now established on LOC.

Passing JENDA, GS Captured, CAT III DUAL.  Final descent now.

TOUCHDOWN!  36R  Full Stop

Ok, good for you.  Hasn't been my experience.  FSLTL severly impacts frame rates and taxes any system when it is on.  iniBuilds Lax for me high to ultra 2560X1080 24 fps. FSLTL on with bad weather and your looking at a single digit slide show.  Turn FSLTL off, goes back to 20+FPS.  So congratulations on your bulletproof system and highly optomized settings.

I know this doesn't help you but I have several flights, from gate to gate, under different weather scenarios, with induced system failures and never experienced a single CTD or blocking.

Might it be caused by some addon / mod?

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

just throwing out there but do you have some key/button linked to active pause?

David

FWIW I flew TPA-CLT AAND HAD A CTD after touchdown at CLT. Flew back CLT-TPA no issue.

I have flown this prior flight prior to the update dozens of times without issue- but for one time I’m staying a non-reporter. If it happens again I will file a ticket.

First suggestion is try a different aircraft model.  Take most basic change first. Thence...

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, guys. I've been distracted with issues with my boat and have been away from simming for a bit.

Fenix is aware of this issue. Other users are seeing the same symptoms as I am in other situations as well. All are reporting that the aircraft freezes but buttons, knobs, and switches still work, They're looking into it. I have no idea why it is a solid condition at ECAKE for me, though.

You have something wrong with your system.
