all the traffic active at all times

What is the closest airport? That is not so easy. When flying in the greater London area for instance, you have 5 major airports ...It will generate a lot of overhead and stutters for loading these airports, one by one depending on heading.

I didn’t promise that my ideas will be easy (:))
I’m just planting a seed and maybe there will be a way....
Love the program

I know. That's why I keep maintaining the FSX version for you...

Well I'll give your idea some more thought, maybe it works fine if we do not park static, just the live aircraft.

this is exactly what I envisioned
Only life traffic on the airports passing below
standing by if you need any Beta testing
Thank you for your efforts

Just being Devil's Advocate here; how about loading all aircraft on the ground, say within 1-2 nm from the user aircraft (kinda like a bubble).

Would that be feasible or would it create problems of its own?

Yes, and not loading all the gates info in memory, the only thing PSXTraffic needs for smooth landings and takeoffs and taxiing is the airport altitude, and the airport must set (temporary) as the park airport so traffic will land there (is in reach), and alt above gnd can be monitored

More of a problem, and cpu demanding, is to find out if you will fly over an airport shortly. That depends on your heading. There are about 22000 airports, we need an algorithm that finds the airports within reach (repeatedly). I've just tested to take the airport from RT"s QNH messages, but RT only searches for the nearest airport, that may also be one 30 nm besides or behind you, and therefore useless.

@mike stryczek

I have implemented a "FlyOver" function. If checked it will show live traffic at the nearest airport within a radius of 12 nm.

It works best for light aircraft and helicopters (they don't fly fast/high), but it is is also available for other aircraft. As far as I can test it works flawlessly and it does not generate stutters, because it does not have to load all the gates from the airport file and it does not park static aircraft.

I have implmented it in PSXTraffic and PSXT_FSX. Unfortunately I cannot testiit over here, so I hope it works and otherwise you will get in touch I assume 😉

Release will be tomorrow (I hope), Friday Sep 8th.

Thank you for taking a chance and taking time

I assume this function is user select-able (and defaults off) - for those us us not interesting we can NOT turn this function on?

I'm not interested in using a "flyover" function so I will turn it off. Thanks for adding the functionality, but I doubt I will ever use it.

That's fine, is is off by default, so don't worry...

There are others that want it. It is more interesting for users flghing a light aircraft or helicopter. Not for heavy metal.
