Does Acceleration install DX10?

Recommended Posts

Guest garwig2

Is DX10 included on the DVD, or do I have to download it? I just upgraded to Vista, got a DX10 compliant card, and installed Acceleration, but I'm not sure if any of this installed DX10. How do I check if DX10 is working?

There is a checkbox visible in the graphics option screen named "Preview DirectX 10" which enables/disables the DX10 renderer. After checking or unchecking the box, FSX must be restarted for the change to take effect.

hello, there is a lot of confusion about directX on Vista. To some up : Windows Vista comes with DirectX 9 (for backwards compatibility) and DirectX 10 (complete new codepath compared to old directX enginges) installed. There is no DirectX 10 for windowsXP, as in the wise words of Phil Taylor :... after all the changes to make directX 10 compatible with XP, you will end up with Vista. So Acceleration does not install DX10, but if you have Vista, and directX 10 compliant hardware, you can enable DirectX 10 preview in FSX.Hope that it is clear now,Jan

So another quick question. I noticed that is does say DX10 "preview" meaning this isn't the final DX10 patch, is that correct? Is there still something to come that would make FSX fully DX10, or is this it?

I would not bet on it.From what I understood from reading Phil's posts here and on his blog, full DirectX 10 support will come only with MSFS XI.They expect most 3rd party developers will continue to follow the directX 9 codepath for now. (Most people are still on XP).As I understood it, ACEs already started brainstorming about the next release. But Phil can always correct me if I am wrong.Jan
