Hi, yesterday I just got a thrustmaster tca quadrant, but I have some problems with the calibration.

1. As you can see in one of the videos, even if I calibrate the throttle, it just won’t go the max reverse, only to idle reverse. When I calibrate it, I switch the throttle quadrant to max reverse, but in the sim it won’t work whatever I do.

2. When I slowly move the throttles, in the simulator one of them is always higher than the other( this only happens when I’m between the detents)

 3. when I try to takeoff, the plane veers to the left, even if I use the rudder, it’s impossible to steer.

If you have any solution/suggestion for any problem, it would be very helpful.

I *think* this happens when using the "0-100%" setting for the throttles in MSFS Controls Config. I think the one to use is just "throttle 1 axis" (and throttle 2).

Also, I don’t know if this is a problem, I don’t have the thrust master flight control panel installed on my pc. I downloaded the drivers and software, but for some reason I don’t have that.

If you have any idea how to get it, please let me know.

Check your throttles are bound to the right axis for the Fenix as BrammyH mentions. Better to create a separate controller profile for the Fenix.

The Thrustmaster software is built into the default Windows "Game Controllers"setup so if properly installed you can go there and select the TCA controller, then click on properties.

But the device has a built-in calibration routine also:

The hex key that comes with the package fits into a slot on the right side of the right lever which helps to make sure both levers move exactly the same.
It is quite simple to do:

  1. First, disconnect the USB cable and pull the levers all the way back, into the reverse zone. Then you press the right sofbutton (next to the engine start selector) and reconnect the controller.
  2. Move the levers fully forward and press both red buttons on the levers (the toga buttons)
  3. Move the levers one notch down and press the two red buttons again.
  4. Continue until (and including) you are all the way down again, in the reverse zone.
  5. Then press BOTH softkeys an the sides of the start key and disconnect the USB cable.

And the problem isn’t just for the fenix, on the flybywire, whatever I do on the calibration, it says that the reverse full and reverse idle are the same, and I can’t do anything.

Just type "game controllers" in the start menu, it should return the option to "set up USB game controllers".

I have the TCA quadrant for just a week and have only used it for the Hondajet sofar, so I don't know how it works with the fenix etc. The Hjet manual explicitly tells reads to set the throttles in MSFS to axes without the "0-100%. This might be the case for other aircraft as well.

I have The throttle set without the 0-100% axis, but still the same

No I don't. I am just migrating from GA to the HondaJet and will probably try the ATR / BAE146 / Fokker28 after that one.

I had the same back in the very beginning as far as I can remember (many moons ago). What fixed it for me was downloading the current driver and firmware, doing the updates including firmware updates both on stick and throttles from TM and doing a calibration on hardware level like described above. I have currently no problems except you sometimes have to minimze the zones in some planes to separate idle and idle reverse.

Here are some notes I posted here a few months ago:

It's vital to take this step by step to determine the cause of the problem.

1) Check using the Thrustmaster control panel that each and every button is working, and that the thrust levers (and flaps and speed brake levers if you have them) show smooth and continuous movement across the entire range. If there is any problem at this stage go back and use the Thrustmaster calibration instructions from their website. If you have the flaps/speed brake add-on note there is a more extensive calibration procedure required.

2) Load up MSFS and check in options that the thrust levers are set to throttle 1 axis and throttle 2 axis - not the 0 to 100% variants. Again check that the display shows smooth and continuous movement across the whole range (don't forget to include the reverse position in your test). Sensitivity doesn't particularly matter at this stage as long as the levers show movement across the whole range. Make sure that you have NO OTHER controls bound to a throttle.

3) load up the Fenix and go through the calibration in the MCDU. Note that until you have completed the calibration I don't think you'll see any movement of the levers in the cockpit, but once they are calibrated you should see the movement you expect.

The above process should show you which part is not working properly. If 1 & 2 work but 3 doesn't then I'm afraid it's back to Fenix to diagnose.

 

The fact that you can't seem to calibrate the reverse thrust settings suggests that you need to go right from step 1 and ensure that during the Thrustmaster calibration you ensure that you pull up the reverse thrust levers and move the thrust levers fully back when setting the minimum values. Otherwise the calibration will only use the idle position as 0% and TOGA as 100%.
