no brightness for panels in lots of aircraft?

Featured Replies

I'm almost certainly doing something dumb, but . . .

Haven't been using the sim for a while, and never was big on actual piloting, but been getting things going again (and finding lots of good things since the latest update - feels like the visuals are improved generally) and it seems like most of the smaller aircraft I've been trying, anything with a glass display of any kind (Garmin etc) and the display is so dim as to be unreadable. Don't remember this as an issue in the past. Like I say, I'm not actually too bothered about the finer points of flying, I'm a ctrl-e sort of guy, but I do at least like to be able to see what's going on.

Can't see any obvious MSFS controls to adjust.

Am I having a senior moment here?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/pointers

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

What happens if you change the time of day?  Maybe you were facing into the sun.

If not, post a screenshot.

There are brightness controls for the G1000, GTN, etc. What aircraft are you flying?

Sometimes, if I can't find a button to do this, I will search for a keybord command in the controls section which will do it for me.  The switch or knob is usually there though if you look hard enough and long enough for it

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

There's a line in a config file to turn off "eye adjustment to light" or something like that. Another solution is to turn up Gamma in "adjust desktop color settings" in Nvidia control panel. MSFS should have a gamma adjustment, but it doesn't as far as I know.

As I understand it he is talking about the brightness of the LCD displays.

Anyone figure out how to successfully map HOTAS slider dials to cockpit panel/cabin light brightness? Nothing seems to work for me?

just checking out a few more aircraft to try and isolate the issue. Seems to be narrowing done to one particular form of LCD screen/panel.

I'll post some pix when I'm a bit more sure of what's affected. Certainly, a lot of aircraft are actually ok so it's not a system level setting/issue.

Hope to post more tomorrow, and thanks for the replies so far.

OK, just posted some screenshots here - https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/638347-no-brightness-for-panels-in-lots-of-aircraft-screenshots/

Seems to be primarily a thing with the panels in the Kitfox and Sting, which seem to be the same Garmin of some sort. You can see in the night shots that the panels are active, but they're not bright enough to see in daylight. Can't find any location in the cockpit or on the panel to manipulate the brightness. As you can see from the other shots, most other aircraft that I tried seem to be ok. All taken with the same MSFS settings.

Anybody got any ideas?

Of course, there doesn't seem to be any documentation that I can find anywhere for either of these planes, not in the sim or on the vendor sites (but don't get me started on the lack of dicumentation everywhere), so if need be I'll just have to fly blind. I do mostly anyway!

That's the Garmin G3X you are having the problem with, check that you don't have a G3X mod in your community folder, it's not needed anymore.

Also, there is a button in the G3X options to increase the brightness. Check this video:

a G3X mod in your community folder,

Wasn't sure what you meant by this, but checking in my addons-linker setup I did have the Workingtitle G3000 freebie in there. Removed that and all is well. So thank you - much appreciated.

With the mod in place, I couldn't access anything on the panel at all, none of the buttons worked. Plus some other problems that I'll document in another post later.

So, lots of other issues resolved as well.

I found the Geforce Experience Detail Filter brightens up the cockpit and without it very dark compared to the outside view, so I always use it.
