Opinion: The most feature complete payware airplane

Featured Replies

FBW320

at least that is what I fly most though I own PMDG 737 and Fenix (besides the Carenado Seneca, CRJ, ATR, BAE146, Twin Otter)…

OK, for payware I would still go for Fenix as PMDG got closer but the recent EFB is just not yet as „feature complete“ as the Fenix one.. YMMV

Leonardo md-80. Nice having the acars and cpdlc.

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

Yup, Hot Start Challenger 650 (XP) by far the most feature rich aircraft across any sim. I would love to see it in MSFS, but doubt it will happen. And in my onion the MD-82, A2A Comanche, Fenix A 320, PMDG 737's, And Black Square avionic upgrades.

Some could argue (and they do) that freeware Zibo in Xplane in on par or even better than PMDG in P3D surely better than the MSFS version as far as a complete 737.

The Zibo definitely does not compare to the PMDG 737 in MSFS, in terms of systems modeling, abnormals, HGS capability, and a pretty long list of other details.  It wins in ground handling (just because the PMDG is hamstrung by using the MSFS physics vs their own line A2A), and if I remember correctly I think it's capable of RF legs.  If the PMDG has a weak spot, it's the old LNAV guidance and lack of RF support.

But taken in total, comparing high fidelity simulations of 737s, the PMDG is just a lot more capable and accurate.

This isn't to bash the Zibo team, who has done amazing work for freeware.  It's hardly a fair comparison, but if one were to make it... There's one obvious winner.

Wow, that's a nice endorsement of the PMDG 737 in MSFS over the Zibo in XP 12, coming from a real life 737 pilot! Thanks for your feedback @Stearmandriver!

“Feature complete” is an interesting term open to a lot of interpretation.

I’d agree with the A2A Comanche being a good candidate because I can’t think of anything else I’d like it to be able to do or do better.

Much as I love the Fenix A320 and PMDG 737 and fly them more than anything else, neither are feature complete.  Fenix has more functionality and variants coming, neither has a deep ACARS simulation, one has only a basic tablet etc.

In my mind one of the most feature complete airliners I’ve ever used was the FS Labs A320 series.

I'll go against the grain here and suggest for MSFS it's a toss up between the Wing42 Boeing 247D and the A2A Comanche.

However, across all sims I've used (this includes DCS), I'd argue the A-10C II being the most feature complete, the Aviodev C-101 is a close second with it's individual wear and tear modelling.

Some might argue it's unfair to use GAs compared to an airliner, but the question was about being feature complete and in that regard it doesn't matter how simple or complex the aircraft itself is, but how close of a rendition that aircraft is to it's real life counterpart.

My vote goes to the Blacksquare kingair. The system depth is incredible and it has excellent performance too. More than capable of 300+ knots ground speeds. Had my first failure yesterday. A battery bus tie fault which required the landing gear to be lowered manually. Overall an Incredibly immersive aircraft with lots of features.

My vote goes to the A2A Comanche as I prefer to fly by hand instead of programming computers to do the work for me.

Feature complete, as I define and apply it:-

All sims:-

1). Hot Start Challenger (XP)

2). Majestic Q400 (FSX/P3D)

MSFS:-

1). A2A Commanche.

2). PMDG 737

None of these are my favourite aircraft addons in the sim(s) though.  My favourite aircraft in MSFS is the FBW A320. Freeware, that I rate higher than any payware I've bought.  In other sims overall, the PMDG MD-11 for FSX was my favourite.    I guess that for me, feature complete is not mutually related to what makes a highly enjoyable sim. I love a sense of immersion.  I'm never drawn to failures or deep schematics of the systems.  But I am drawn to a reasonable operational realism.  Sounds and realistic APs are high on my list.  I'd guess most of us have our 'list' of things that contribute to us loving a given aircraft addon.

I flew the A 320 for a few hundred flights. Then I got the PMDG 600 quickly followed by the 800. Once in awhile I go back to the Fenix, but only for a week or two, because to me it quickly becomes kind of boring. Not very much to do between rotation and landing flare in the Airbus, versus the feeling that I am actually piloting something with the 737. Then there are so many features in the PMDG that you can turn on and off, want to fly a HUD, one click and you got it, different landing lights, ability to easily change approaches with the FMC, it's all there. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

PMDG had the previous version's data to work with

While PMDG certainly had the code base of earlier 737 family add-ons on which to build their MSFS versions, I believe that Fenix built its fine A320 on the earlier Prosim standalone simulator, the core of which currently runs on an external application linked to MSFS. Similarly, the Leonardo MD family was available in P3D prior to its release on MSFS. Have any MSFS high fidelity aircraft add-ons been developed totally from scratch in the relatively short time that MSFS has been in existence?

Yep. The A2A J3 Cub lacks even an electrical system but it's a feature-complete offering of that aircraft.

Without getting into the holy war between Airbus and Boeing, in terms of "feature complete" as it pertains to the aircraft, it's a wash between the two. Both, I think are as "feature complete" as you can have in a sim.

I am not counting in this adjusting runways for takeoff on the UFT since it seems like a bug/miscommunication between teams.
