Winjeel by Ant's Airplanes - an absolute blast!

Featured Replies

Has this one gone under the radar?

This is the best aircraft I have bought for a while and it is an absolute delight to fly, with lots of features.  Not very expensive either!

It was a trainer aircraft for the Australian air force many moons ago.  The name Winjeel means young eagle in native Australian apparently.

The flight model is superb, and it has lots of features, liveries, and is very customisable from an EFB that can be stowed.

It hand flies really well, trims out nice, (neutral trim at 25 in boost and 2000 revs), and power off stalls and spins are very entertaining!
Sometimes you can recover the spin in one rotation, while at other times you better hang on!  One spin took me about four rotations to get out and the ground was coming up fast.

It doesn't balloon on flap application, and although you do need a bit of skill on the rudder on take off and landing, it is easily controllable.

The sound set is good (I love flying it with the canopy open), and the developer knows how to do a prop effect correctly, not like the annoying stroboscopic effect on some aircraft that other developers produce. (Why don't they see it?)
The external model and cockpit are superb as well.  You can see every rivet and dent.

I honestly wish Ant's Airplanes would produce more.  Why can't other developers be like this?

Anyway, I am really glad I bought it and I am enjoying it immensely!  Some links...

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Certainly not under my radar! 😉

I had the Winjeel for P3D and really enjoyed it, so I've been keenly anticipating the MSFS version. Around the time his Tiger Moth was released, Ant said he would look at updating the Winjeel, and suddenly here it is. I agree, he is a very good developer - one who always keeps the simmer in mind, what with configurability and quality-of-life features (like the rudimentary auto-pilot in the Tiger Moth, which is useful on a long flight and you need to leave the computer for a moment or two). He's kind of a one-man Just Flight.

Flight simming is going bonkers with great add-ons at the moment.

Yes, I have spent a lot just lately, but it has all been worth it.

I am hoping for the A300 soon as well, along with the C207 Staionair from Carenado within the next few days (although I know that won't be to everyone's taste, but their recent releases have actually been pretty good for me).

100% my list also and convinced to get the Winjeel. I love the ants Moth. Real good quality from this dev.

Cheers T.

Hope he brings his t-28 to msfs

I would love that.

Just spent an hour or so with the Winjeel...Very, very good! To me it bridges the gap between Tiger Moths/Stearmans and grown up warbirds. I find it hard to believe that Anthony does this stuff on his own. He's a genius.

Yes, fully agree.  I wish we had the similar British aircraft, the Percival Provost - over 400 of those build and sold round the globe, but certainly the Winjeel is a good aircraft in its own right, and it's great to see it modelled so well in the sim.

Is anyone suffering from blurry cockpit textures, particularly the placards ? They look a little bit low res. to me.

I agree, one of the new aircraft just released has the strobe effect and it is quite distracting. I think the dev said he did it because people wanted it. If they're going to put that in it would be nice to have an option to turn it off or install a version without it.

Thanks for pointing out this channel Bert. He knows how aeroplanes should be used! .😃 In addition, I had the Winjeel for P3D but never really warmed to it. This time round I'm absolutely captured!

The Winjeel was unspinable when it was designed - not good for a trainer. They had to shift the tail forward to make it spin !

Nobody mentioned the pilot "cat ears" . You can see them at about 30 seconds after 5:00, right after the part showing the battery being cranked up. Perhaps more checklists should have entries for animal hats?
