Alternate beach waves, surf, for FSX/FS9 now available (freeware)

The default crashing waves seemed too fast and flickery....this widens them, slows them down, stops the flicker and has a pullback tide effect. They aren't perfect, as I am no FS programmer and this is my first effect, but I feel they are better than default. Library under waves.zip:)

Downloaded the waves file to try. May have missed it, but could not find any instructions as to where the files are to be placed.Thanks.

. . Hi there: if you do a search on your root FlightSimX folder for the three files you will find them. THEN rt-click / copy and paste those original files into the same folders BEFORE you copy David's new files over. This way you will have the originals saved. Many thanks, David.Regards,

In other words, the .fx files go into the effects folder and the two .bmp's go into the texture folder within the effects folder. :)

Hi,I installed the waves in FSX (SP1) and I must say that they look much better and much more realistic than the default ones. But I am experiencing a strange effect. Suddenly, all the waves disappear completely. I takes then a couple of seconds until they start to be displayed again. But some more seconds later, they disappear again completely ...Any idea what is the problem ?RegardsBruno

Hi,I would like to cancel my question. I have just detected, the (strange) effect, I have mentioned before, appears with default waves too. There is no problem with the new ones. Thank you for creating the new waves.RegardsBruno

Can you post a picture or a video of what they look like? Believe it or not I was just messing with trying to make a better wave effect as well.

I have gotten feedback, and there seems to be a problem with the 2nd effect, where the waves go 'back' into the sea. When you get high framerates, they pop and unpop into view. I intentionally set my framerate target to 20 and it stops. Not sure at this point what to do...perhaps disable the 2nd effect? I'll keep messing with it. The misleading thing is that if you are set to high autogen and in a busy area...the frames make the waves okay....as soon as you are in the boonies and frames are good, it starts. Hmm....I'm stumped at this point.

Think I got it for the most part. It at least isn't as obvious now. Replace the entire contents of the .fx file with the following:[Library Effect]Lifetime=5Version=2.00Radius=-1Priority=0[Properties]Cockpit=1VirtualCockpit=1Spot=1Tower=1Map=1[Emitter.0]Lifetime=1.00, 1.50Delay=0.00, 0.50Bounce=0.00Rate=1.00, 1.00X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.01, 0.01X Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Particle Velocity=1.10, 1.80X Rotation=0.00, 0.00Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00Z Rotation=0.00, 0.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=10.00, 10.00Pitch=0.00, 0.00Bank=0.00, 0.00Heading=0.00, 0.00LOD=0[Particle.0]Lifetime=4.50, 5.40Type=19X Scale=35.00, 50.00Y Scale=25.00, 40.00Z Scale=0.00, 0.00X Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Y Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Z Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.01, 0.02Color Rate=0.70, 0.75X Offset=10.00, 10.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=12.00, 12.00Fade In=4.20, 4.30Fade Out=3.85, 4.90Rotation=0.00, 0.00Ground Normal=1Shade=1Face=0, 0, 0[ParticleAttributes.0]Blend Mode=1Texture=fx_swoosh.bmpBounce=0.00Color Start=207, 207, 207, 200Color End=255, 255, 255, 255Jitter Distance=0.00Jitter Time=0.00FPS=.1TextureSize=256CellSize=128CellStart=0CellEnd=15X Scale Goal=0.00Y Scale Goal=0.00Z Scale Goal=0.00Extrude Length=0.00Extrude Pitch Max=0.00Extrude Heading Max=0.00[Emitter.1]Lifetime=1.00, 1.00Delay=2.75, 2.75Bounce=0.00Rate=1.00, 1.00X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Emitter Velocity=-3.80, -3.70Drag=0.00, 0.00X Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00X Rotation=0.00, 0.00Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00Z Rotation=0.00, 0.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00Pitch=0.00, 0.00Bank=0.00, 0.00Heading=0.00, 0.00[Particle.1]Lifetime=4.50, 4.80Type=19X Scale=35.00, 50.00Y Scale=25.00, 40.00Z Scale=0.00, 0.00X Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Y Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Z Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00Color Rate=0.00, 0.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=40.00, 42.00Fade In=4.20, 4.30Fade Out=3.85, 4.50Rotation=0.00, 0.00Ground Normal=1Shade=1Face=0, 0, 0[ParticleAttributes.1]Blend Mode=1Texture=fx_swoosh2.bmpBounce=0.00Color Start=255, 255, 255, 100Color End=255, 255, 255, 255Jitter Distance=0.00Jitter Time=0.00FPS=.01TextureSize=256CellSize=128CellStart=0CellEnd=3X Scale Goal=0.00Y Scale Goal=0.00Z Scale Goal=0.00Extrude Length=0.00Extrude Pitch Max=0.00Extrude Heading Max=0.00

Disregard my previous message with all the coding, as my 'copy and paste' somehow didn't include anything with brackets around it....thus, those of you who may have used that it probably didn't work so I apologize. The new file is waves_225780.zip avail here:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=112259Again, the .fx goes into effects folder and the .bmp's go into the texture folder that is within the effects folder. Here are 2 videos (for some reason youtube wouldn't accept them):Default waves video: (for comparison)http://www.uploading.com/files/BW5MG1AS/fs..._23_62.avi.htmlIt'll have a 'please wait x seconds' countdown timer, and when the orange 'click here for download' pops up, right click it and hit 'save target as' and watch from your drive. Easier than single left-clicking it which streams it and wondering if it's even going. And then the alternate waves video:http://www.uploading.com/files/6T6NZ15R/fs..._15_46.avi.html
