What was the best / worst of MSFS in 2023

Featured Replies

Give us your top 3!

For me, best would be:

1) WU13 - although the micronesia parts aren't great, Hawaii and Indonesia really shine. I think East Java might be my new heaven.

2) SU14 - Atmosphere changes and a wicked SR22 update from WT, wow!

3) SWS putting their Vans on sale for a dollar each - I mean, obviously!

And worst:

1) Clouds - still really disappointing compared to what we originally had, and very little improvement this year (not to mention lack of turbulence)

2) SU13 - underwhelming content delivered with a map zoom bug that made every session a frustration (frustration compounded by the fact they clearly had a fix pretty early on but just left it until SU14)

3) Scenery Gateway postponement - they really should have had this out by now.

the best for me is:

1) there will be 2024 in the not so distant future.

2) the men at work-ingtitle. the single most important enhancement. without which I am not sure I would still be enjoying MSFS.

3) ymmv

very nice.

The Best:

Working Title

Sim Updates and World Updates

The Worst:

"Early access"

The decline of solid instructional/review videos on youtube and the rise of clickbait-twitch-streaming

Patreon cash grabs (whats's next? OF for sim addons?)

Best:

-announcement of MS2024

-FBW contribution

-FG mod

-SU14

Worst:

-my recent landing attempt at ENNO

-meaningless titles at Avsim

-terminal interiors of airport sceneries

The Best.....

  • Experiencing next generation graphics in a flight simulator for the first time
  • Purchasing 20+ payware airports at bargain basement prices
  • Detailed terminal interiors

The Worst.....

  • Confusing UI with far too many settings options
  • Texture issues on the Isle of Man that apparently date back to the dawn of time
  • Ground handling issues
  • Normal autogen buildings where there should be oil tanks

Best:

A2A Comanche

new lighting model that actually looks a lot better

Worst:

3 years in and fisheye view still ruins the graphics to large extent. still missing persistent external zoom factor

review scene on the whole transmuting into influencers who now overly mince critical assessments where necessary

Ground handling issues

That is also a bugbear of mine, but as they’ve shown video proof that it’s gonna be addressed, I left it off my list.

i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

All of my many positives and few negatives have been addressed by other above!

Would just like to add that :

POSITIVE:

- FBW A320 NEO (still the one I find feels great for an Airbus FBW when hand flown...)

- FSHUD

- PMDG 737

- FENIX 320 CEO

- A2A COMANCHE

NEGATIVE:

- Would like to see developers having access to weather data, for instance enabling decent Weather Radar devices;

- Ground physics and the blend between ground and flight model...

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Worst bug is that offline flying with photoscenery of a previous online flight does not work.

The best

- Frame generation on all cards and the adaptive LOD mod, although unofficial, have opened up busy airports to me again.

The worst

- In 2023 we still have dreadful ATC and blurry yellow blobs at night for distant cities. That weird sepia mask just will not disappear.

The best:

- Fenix a320

- BS TBM850

- late to the party but the inibuilds a300

- Avro Vulcan is a joy

- improvements to the visuals

The worst:

- night environment, don’t get the people who stick up for this too. It’s improved yes but night time IRL does not look like that. Although the lower you get the better it looks.

- ground handling / flight ground blending

best:

-those special moments where the lighting is perfect and it still feels like my first time using msfs.

-Leonardo MD-80

worst

-still no cirrus clouds

-Runway and runway lighting LOD should be adjusted.  When I'm on final approach it's weird that the runway is so unfocused.

The Best : A2A Comanche, Dynamic LOD Mod, Working Title Mods

The Worst : No working GA Traffic, Bad DX12 Implementation.

Best:

1. A2A Comanche

2. Accuseasons Advanced

3. Improved atmospheric lighting

There is no going back from all 3 of those things for me.

Worst:

1. DX12 airport ground texture vanishing bug. It's still there. STILL! And it's still preventing me from using DX12

2. Ground handling. Some developers work around this better than others but there always seems to be a compromise somewhere. For Instance, PMDG nails it up until 10Kts when it just seems to cease to function almost at all and FSR500 works beautifully once moving but something very funky happening when just getting rolling. And then there are the transitions from ground to air and vice versa. MSFS ground handling is an immersion killing mess.

3. The stars at night. These are unnaceptable in a sim of this fidelity. Some of them are such large blurry blobs that they can be confused for the moon at times.
