WIP freeware airport: never flew here but looks spectacular

Featured Replies

I never land nor take off from this airfield. Nor in real or in the sim. But a request made as a comment of one of my scenery raised my attention. Small size, regular buildings for a GA field (I suck in Blender/Sketchup), plenty of single prop planes based and most of all a spectacular location on a mountain top. Yeah.... It's not Sedona, but Placerville (KPVF) is my current project for now. A big task to collect data and visual material on Internet. It's also an excuse to move away from San Diego where there isn't much field left to get build in MSFS!

I used to watch a (real world) twin Cessna YouTuber that flew out of Placerville.  Always liked the look of the place and did check for payware scenery once before.   Looking forward to your rendition.

Lots of T-hangars there!  Easy to have repeating textures for those.  There are tricks I would use to avoid that, like flipping a texture etc. etc. but then again I was never a very good gmax guy.

Forgot that Hangtown VOR was there.

Oh yes! But don't drive there for me 😉

As I'm building pilot-oriented scenery, I pay a lot of attention of iconic local-only taxiway signs like the noise abatement ones. I took assumption based on the airport chart remarks (A/FD) for runway 05 and 23. And I'm sure that there're signs right there (checked on Youtube video and visible from Bing Eye's bird mode).

Are you able to catch the text of these two's ?

On runway 05:

On runway 23:

And globally, the name of taxiways are not on the A/FD but there're some taxiway signs like the Foxtrot I saw on a Youtube video (Skywagons.com) :

I have plenty of question like this 😉

I wish I could help in a tangible way...

However, I'll cheer from the northern latitudes 😊

Looking like another stunner Vincent., thank you for sharing the journey and the airport.

Yep, thank you. As I never flew there (in real, nor in the sim !) I start every project with an extensive search on Internet on any valuable sources 😉 I watched several of Skywagons video to figure out some locations. Unfortunately, mostly on the east side of Placerville. I did my best to display his hangar (and the Skywagons.com sign 😉
