February 3, 20242 yr Stuff that I have noticed in my flights to date.... Sometimes I do not get any audio for the 80 knots/v1/rotate/v2 part of a departure in my PMDG 737-600. The audio only starts with "positive rate of climb". Maintenance in the PMDG 737-600 appears to be a bit of a gimmick. I only have to click on the maintenance issues to resolve them. Seems a bit pointless, and not really based on how I am taking care of the plane. My PMDG 737-600 seems to be moved a bit too easily by a very light breeze (<2m/s). I may be incorrect here, so feel free to crucify me Sometimes I do not see a READY TO FLY button after loading a saved scenario (or the information text to the left). This forces me to restart MSFS from scratch. Sometimes the runway options section of the screen when selecting an airport does not appear. Sometimes I see a GO BACK button when choosing a setting from the weather selection sub menu on the airport selection screen, and clicking on this takes me back to the main menu. Most of the time I see a CLOSE button, and this takes me out of the weather selection sub menu back to the airport selection screen (which is the correct sequence). Why is the EGPB Sumburgh ILS approach to runway 27 offset by 3 degrees to the right? The approach is entirely over water Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
February 3, 20242 yr - the takeoff calls are all options that can be turned on / off. Options stick per livery. If you're seeing the difference when flying a different livery, you may just need to turn the call-out options on. - Maintenance can be seen to be realistic for airline ops ;). A line pilot rarely sees the same tail more than once a month, so the aircraft condition really isn't dependent on how you personally take care of it, it's much more dependent on how MX takes care of it. When you find something wrong, you write it up, push a button (making a radio call), and leave. Next time you see the plane, it's fixed. The in sim implementation seems close enough. - Asobo's "realistic" turbulence is anything but. Might try knocking it down to medium. - That approach is probably offset to maintain TERPS terrain clearance on terrain just north of the final near the airport. Andrew Crowley

I only use the PMDG colour scheme, so it seems to be a glitch in the software that happens now and again. The same is presumably true for the MS/Asobo glitches with the settings/selection menus. The approach is entirely over water The Jeppesen plate for the ILS 27 says: "WARNING: high terrain and obstacles in the final approach and missed approach areas..." The HAT is 246', which is higher than the usual 200' for a Cat I ILS, another indicator that there's terrain and/or obstacles near the approach path. Hence the 2.6 deg offset localizer course. February 3, 20242 yr Author I guess it must be the high cliffs to the south of the approach, although they look comfortably far away from the runway to me. By the way @Stearmandriver those kind of callouts are saved per model and not per livery, so they stick with whatever -600 you fly. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I just hit escape and then reload. Seems to work the 2nd time around.

Considering that circling is prohibited north of the airport, I'm guessing it's terrain to the north. The terrain doesn't have to be very high or very impressive looking, just enough to poke into the TERPS cone in front of an aircraft on approach. It seems counterintuitive because offsetting the approach course to the left might actually place the aircraft slightly closer to the terrain, but because the cone is referenced to aircraft heading, having the aircraft turned a few degrees to the south may just be keeping a troublesome hill from penetrating the cone. Even though the aircraft might be closer to the hill when abeam it, it's more difficult for a minor, brief directional excursion to actually result in terrain impact at that point. That's really a guess; without seeing the entire engineering analysis it would be hard to say for sure Andrew Crowley

This is why I started the sentence with "sometimes". I have those call outs enabled in the FMC, and they work just fine for most of my flights. February 4, 20242 yr Author Add another one to the list..... Twice now I have experienced a loading screen to nowhere. In other words, the loading bar moves right to the end (which it does not normally do, as it jumps to the end at the last part), but the music carries on playing, and the snippets of information about the PMDG 737 keep being displayed one after the other. The loading sequence never completes, and once again I have to sign out of Windows, sign back in, and load MSFS from scratch. February 11, 20242 yr Author I had a quick circuit flight at UK2000 EGAC Belfast City this afternoon, and noticed a big dark square on the water (some rubbish generic dark green texture that looked like it had been dragged kicking and screaming from FSX or P3D) in Belfast Harbour short of the runway 22 threshold. I have never seen that there before EDIT: I have just reloaded the same scenario, and the dark square has vanished 🤷♂️ Edited February 11, 20242 yr by Christopher Low Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
February 14, 20242 yr Author I am disappointed that there is no Valentine's Day sale (as I am keen to buy some more airports), but I did notice one airport on the MS Marketplace that I had not seen before at a 30% discount. This is EFKI Kajaani by a developer called BIGBEN, and it looks pretty good in the screenshots. Not a large terminal or apron, but the terminal building itself looks very nice, and it has detailed interior modelling. The runway is 2500 metres long, and the airport is located in a rather nice area of Finland next to a large lake with plenty of interesting arms and backwaters. I snapped it up at the irresistible price of just £5.79.
