Latest XP update

I just downloaded the latest XP update from Microsoft and installed it. I now see a new folder named:C:169c0161026291e554e00fb90a8c0eThis contains a single file:msxml4-KB927028-enu.logThe file contans a verbose log detailing presumably installing an update of msxml4.Anyone know anything more about this?

I got the same thing at my office, as well as my home computers...My Folder name is different, and file name is slightly different, mine ends in 927978...1st time I've seen them place a folder there, my guess is it was supposed to be deleted after install was completed and got left there...Or it's a big conspiracy to log everything we do and report back to the gubermint..... errr.... Hi,the Microsoft Knowledge Base article for 927978 has the following text..."Security update package 927978 may create a log file. The package names the log file KB927978.log. The package saves the log file inside a folder. The folder has a system generated name. The folder is in the root of a system drive. The path resembles the following:C:system generated nameKB927978.log.Note In this example, C is system drive.Although it is optional, you can remove the log file and the folder."It is not removed automatically in case you need to check certain things associated with the update.More info can be found here for those interested:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927978/en-usI removed them shortly after I had found them. What is really annoying is that the file is placed "willy-nilly" in different partitions on several computers. One would think it would be placed with all the other *.log files in the Windows folder. Have you ever looked to see how many are in your Windows folder?W. Sieffert

Yup. I just had to reload a recent Ghost image of my system drive since my primary hard drive died last week. When I re-downloaded this update, the mystery folder appeared on a different partition than when I first downloaded and installed it a couple weeks ago. Strange...
