P3D V5.4 Multi Monitor Setup

Hi,

I would like to use 3 x screens for P3D Cockpit.

A 43.4 inch display and 2 x 24 inch displays on the left and right


There are a few options that I have tried and am not entirely satisfied with.

First, I created a new window using New View and dragged it to the left monitor.

But as soon as I create a new window the fps drops by half.

Then I did so by dragging Cockpit onto all monitors. FPS is very good here, but everything is stretched.

I would like to have a cockpit view that I can see left and right windows.

It works quite well in MSFS and without an FPS drop.

I wanted to ask if there are any tips for optimizing P3D on 3x screens without major FPS drops.

Possible Alternative to Multi-Monitors

I'm not sure what you're flying, and how or what you're using multi-monitors for or what size they are, but I'd like to give a shot at recommending an alternative to you.

I've run Multi-Monitor setups in different configurations (including single and multiple graphics cards) since about 2012.  One configuration I never tried was using projectors or P3D View Groups. For the former I didn't have a need, and when I looked into the latter I found the documentation was pretty poor to non-existent, so that's the only reason why I try it - I'm sure it's much better these days.

I fly airliners online (VATSIM) with my monitors on my desk (rather than filling windows on a home built flight deck). I used to run three, 23 inch monitors, and I learned pretty quickly the benefits of using my outboard monitors for things like moving maps, charts, radios, and from time to time some 2D panels.  Moreover, my TrackIR from my figher pilot sim days was terrific for flying airliners and it was even better with a much enhanced field of view than using three monitors!  Today my TrackIR, though hooked up, is replaced by an Occulus Quest 3 (Mixed/Agmented Reality Headset) and, well, if you haven't tried that let me tell you that you'll be hooked in about 2.3 microseconds and (forgive the pun) you'll never look back - though you have 360 degrees and can if you want to.

A few years ago I replaced by center 23 inch monitor with a 55 inch 4K TV, and that was INCREDIBLE. I still use two old 23-inch monitors for whatever programs I feel like running (Navigraph Charts, Moving Map, Vpilot, VATSPY, Web Browser, etc.  Of course all those program types are available in the VR Headset.  So what I normally do is use the displays for pre-flight, switch to the VR Headset for Pushback, Taxi, Takeoff and Departure. Though I don't have to, I usually go back to the displays for Cruise, and once I'm back down to 10,000ft or so I'll swap back to the VR Headset.  Really incredible!

I haven't used it yet, but the TrackIR is still hooked up in case I ever want to use it.  It was immensley helpful in Shared Cockpit, and I can only imagine how wonderful the VR headset will be in Shared Cockpit. I'm on the test team for a couple of study level MSFS aircraft projects, both of which already have Shared Cockpit.  Presently I have close to 5000 hours of Shared Cockpit time, so one thing I'm going to work hard to get implemented is Augmented/Mixed Reality implemented (so you'll see your arms and hands on the flight deck and be able to turn knobs and flip switches) but also to get the arm/hand data sent to the headset of the other person flying Shared Cockpit with you!!!  Just as long as we can pull the data, and I believe we can, it should be pretty simple to do.

I haven't found a solution yet.I tried NVIDIA Surround, but since I have different resolutions it doesn't work.

I dragged the cockpit to 3 x screens, but it looks weird.

But FPS is completely ok here.

It's best if you have extra windows, but this drops FPS from 50-60 to 20.

There are view groups, but I think that's the same as when I create a new window via the menu.

It's a shame, I don't think I'll be able to do it the way it works in MSFS.

In MSFS the whole thing works very well... without much FPS loss.

It's a shame that it doesn't work with P3D.
