I have a file on my desktop that says controller settings, which I made well over a year ago. It gets updated every day. If I ever get a total reset, I will just replace that file.

Is that the same file-directory that i use for backup?

C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData copy wgs dir for backup joystick settings

I woke up this morning, turned on my PC, launched MSFS and lo and behold IT WORKED as it should. setting all in order. I can only assume the it couldn't connect to the Cloud and so kept trying to update and basically got it's knickers in an almighty twist.

Peace and tranquillity has resumed. 😎 Hallelujah

wait. let me restart and check that out

I just made a copy of the folder and put it on my desktop.

If it's the wgs folder, I found after my incident of "the great reset" that replacing it with last known good did absolutely nothing.

It was sort of my last hope, when I wasn't getting anything back after 2 hours and 15+ restarts.  "At least I can try that WGS folder and hopefully get my controller settings back" (as is claimed by saving that folder), I naively thought.

Did nothing whatsoever when I put the backed up one that worked and had al of my settings in. Put it into MSFS, restarted it and none of the settings were restored.

There is clearly - from the number who have chimed into this thread - a huge increase of these "all settings reset" incidents.  For some users, resetting things may be a 20 minute job, if you mostly use MSFS's default key bindings and a common controller config.   For me it was around 7 hours, as I use entirely custom keys for all AP and many other functions, along with 5 pieces of hardware, each with multiple aircraft configs.

All MS need to do is have all settings (controllers, keyboard, graphics, data, etc, etc) "dumped" to a readable file in the user's installation.    Instead they blindly and fundamentally insist their cloud is good enough for this requirement.

It's not.

it is such a mess! first time ever. NOW I feel with anybody who went through this before. did reset and repair MSFS, just tried to install the around 170GB package, directed it to my f-drive and seems to load now without that additional GB dump. yet I am not confident that it helps...

what is interesting is that my Forza Horizon5 did also not start today past the initial welcome screen with a message like cloud profile not available. so MS messed up hugely!

This happened to me late sunday and got all the settings resurrected
What I did was on this path:

I never saved any new settings
I quit off game services, xbox, and log out my windows account

Restarted

Start all the programs related, almost for five or six times I was keeping the accesibility screen of dead, got quit MSFS again

I looked at the wgs folder, and found an empty one called T and an alfanumeric one with a lot of alphanumeric folders

I opened one by one and open the files in xml editor. I founded that this was my controler settings. I made a backup of this folder and copy all the subfolders to the folder "T".

I launched MSFS and voila! got out the blue and get all my settings back.

The interesting thing is that my wgs/T/ folder was empty.

Also I log out in one moment I just do not remember now, my msfs user from the msfs menu

I wanted get died along three or four hours!

Well that is a bummer, never had to use it, but now I guess it is worthless.

Well I spoke too soon. It's back to updating again. v1.36.20 is that the correct version. My heart sinks when I fire it up and that bloody music is back.

Same. Don’t need to look at the screen. That music tells all

It seems that just you and I DAD have this problem. The rest of the world is serenely oblivious. Do you get that robotic voice at the beginning?

You'll like this one. I re-booted my PC and launched MSFS....Guess what. It did what it was supposed to do! Gaaaah!

Dare I try to start it again without a reboot? Got to haven't I?
