Here's a better(perfect) fix for the F/A-18 landing gea...

This is better than the fix in the library. Just copy these three lines over the three lines in the default cfg, under the contact point heading. The fix in the library cannot take a hard landing, but these settings take hard landings just fine. I noticed the fix in the library modifies the pneumatic system with a lower value, but its better to leave that alone and just go with these changes. Its perfect if you ask me, though maybe somebody else can fix the front gear, as that seems to be off a bit with these settings.;Gearpoint.0=1, -18.00, 0.00, -6.55, 3600, 0, 1.0350, 75.0, 0.20, 4.20, 0.610, 3.0, 3.0, 0, 0.0, 0.0point.1=1, -35.50, -6.00, -7.60, 3600, 1, 1.2349, 0.0, 1.95, 1.00, 0.500, 3.9, 3.9, 2, 0.0, 0.0point.2=1, -35.50, 6.00, -7.60, 3600, 2, 1.2349, 0.0, 1.95, 1.00, 0.500, 3.7, 3.7, 3, 0.0, 0.0http://sio.midco.net/FTP4/gear.jpghttp://sio.midco.net/FTP4/gear2.jpg

Looks like you rolled her out before letting the cement harden.

Yeah, I didn't write this config so I can't correct the front, though the rear gear works perfectly. Maybe somebody who knows what they are doing can fix the front...

point.0 is the nose gearThe third parameter (-6.55) is how far from the aircraft model center the contact point for the nose gear is located. The default setting is -6.60.The settings you listed change the impact damage theshold to 3,600 FPM - from the default 1,600 FPM.

Of course it's a better fix, because the cfg changes you posted are exactly the same as in the captainsim add-on F/A-18D ;-) FYI, with the real F/A-18, below 33000lbs the landing gear can take an even higher sink rate.(I have fixed the nosegear problem to 95% for the A/C model, but I'm still tweaking)RegardsBernt Stolle Capt 767

Yeah its from the CS version, but I didn't know if I could say that here... Avsim has lots of rules. lolI had to change the nose gear contact point to -6.90 in order for the tire to sit right, but now the nose sits too high. Looks like the strut needs to be compressed more.

I fiddled around a bit with the stock values (thanks for the pointer to where to look) and here's what I came up with.

;Gearpoint.0=1, -18.00, 0.00, -6.60, 1600, 0, 0.6349, 75.0, 0.2000, 3.50, 0.6100, 3.0, 3.0, 0, 0.0, 0.0point.1=1, -35.50, -4.90, -7.40, 1600, 1, 0.6349, 0.0, [strong]1.2500, 1.35, 0.8000[/strong], 3.9, 3.9, 2, 0.0, 0.0point.2=1, -35.50, 4.90, -7.40, 1600, 2, 0.6349, 0.0, [strong]1.2500, 1.35, 0.8000[/strong], 3.7, 3.7, 3, 0.0, 0.0

These changes lets the main gear compress properly, I also increased the dampening a bit to reduce the way it tends to lean during turns. Haven't changed anything else.Thoughts?

Using the captain sim values as a base this is what I finally came up with...;Gearpoint.0=1, -18.00, 0.00, -6.50, 3600, 0, 0.6349, 75.0, 0.20, 2.7, 0.610, 3.0, 3.0, 0, 0.0, 0.0point.1=1, -35.50, -6.00, -7.95, 3600, 1, 1.2349, 0.0, 1.95, 1.3, 0.500, 3.9, 3.9, 2, 0.0, 0.0point.2=1, -35.50, 6.00, -7.95, 3600, 2, 1.2349, 0.0, 1.95, 1.3, 0.500, 3.7, 3.7, 3, 0.0, 0.0Shown with tanks full and no ordanance. The captain sim version sits almost identically with the same loadout, which is the third pic. http://sio.midco.net/FTP4/GEAR3.jpghttp://sio.midco.net/FTP4/GEAR4.jpghttp://sio.midco.net/FTP4/GEAR5.jpg

I run into a brick wall trying to cat off with those settings.Like the gear is below deck.
