About that MSFS 2024 Balloon Demo....

Featured Replies

I missed this one which even at the early stage is pretty impressive.

In French we call balloon ‘ montgolfière’ as they were invented by the Montgolfier brothers with the first human flight in 1783. As the story goes, they got the idea watching a shirt drying over a chimney being inflated by the hot air.

A first long flight ? In 1906 two Italians Celestino Usuelli and Carlo Crespi flew over the Alps from  Milan to Aix-les-Bains. You can try crossing the Channel too but be aware that the first try was a catastrophe  leading to the death of the  pilot who was also one of the two first  humans to fly a balloon.

The only thing you can try in MSFS is to "Imagine" that your flight is going to be complicated because of the weather. Everything is so easy, no matter the scenario. To have the constant feeling that we may not be able to get out, that's what I'm looking for. There is nothing else to try apart from pretending.

I'm still waiting for a nice demonstration and technical management of a balloon flight in real conditions.

You just described desktop flight simulation.

Congratulations.

Can you at least acknowledge that this demo is an indicator that they are on the right track where physics is concerned? None of the other sims are able to reproduce this in their current states so there's actually a chance that 2024 could have the most realistic flight model of the bunch. The weather system in 2024 is also doing things like dynamic tornadoes that the other sims don't do either so at the very least we can expect that the new weather system will be very different. In any case, time will tell.
