Is a high end headset that much better?

I use the quest 2. However reverted to a 2 d flight for a change and scenery  on my 3080rtx on a 1440p monitor looks tremendous.

can you get even close to this with a high end headset such as the crystal?

Anyone gone from a quest2 to a high end headset ? What do you think ?

cheers

I don't have experience with the Quest headsets but I upgraded from a Valve Index to the Pimax Crystal and the Crystal display easily blows away the Index. The resolution and even more so, the FOV both vertically and horizontally are far superior and easily noticeable.

That said though, I sold the Crystal as it was huge, heavy, and didn't fit my head well, and the software was buggy. I had to jump through hoops to get it to work each flight but it was amazing after I got it working.

In any event I can confirm the Crystal display was fantastic. It's still not quite like having a 4k display resolution (but feels not far off); my screen door effect was gone and it was far superior to my Index.

The Quest 2 resolution I think is 1832x1920 with 97/93 degree HFOV/VFOV and the Crystal is 2880x2880 and 125/140. You would definitely see the difference I think. The Aero has similar specs to the Crystal if I recall correctly.

I went from a Reverb G2 to an Aero, definitely noticed the improvement.

similar for me, G2 to Aero.  Was a nice step.   I do have have Quest 3 for my secondary rig, (for the grandkids to play on).  The Quest 3 is actually a pretty good setup, though I've not used it for flight sim's.

If you sold the headset, how do you fly then? Back to 2D? For me it is already impossible to get beck to 2D after VR.... 🙂

I found the Quest 3 to be a huge step up from the Quest 2, mainly due to the edge-to-edge clarity. I have only tried a demo of a Crystal and found it only marginally better than the Q3 (in the centre) and I could not get my eyes close enough to get any better FOV.  The Crystal is probably better for night flying because of the local dimming.  I would need a much bigger improvement to justify an upgrade from the Q3.

Well I'm with you on never going back to 2D, regardless of resolution. :gaul:

I got a Bigscreen Beyond to replace my Valve Index but after using it for a short time I'm getting rid of it and going back to my Index until I find something better. The BSB has nice resolution but glare is problematic and the worst part is the FOV/sweetspot is just not acceptable to me. Going back from the Pimax Crystal to Index was a noticeable but not awful reduction in FOV but the BSB is just too much. My next headset FOV will be as important to me as resolution certainly.

Was always interested in hearing the experience of somebody uses different types of headsets. I am usung Quest3. That was my first headset ever. So, I don;t have any clue on how other headsets are capable of. What I can say that I am happy with the Quest 3. The clear edge to edge picture. Crisp (with a very little blur) picture in the cockpit. Affordable price. But the only thing what I don;t like is how the picture looks in a distance. It seems that the resolution is kinda low, but in the cockpit everything looks great.

So, could you share your vision on how everything looks in Pimax? Especially on the ground when airborn.

I started with a Pico 4 and upgraded to a Varjo Aero. Huge difference. Would never fly again with the Pico. Everything in the glass cockpit is crisp and sharp. Of course you cannot compare the resolution with a 4K monitor. It's always a tradeoff between visuals and performance (higher resolution being more demanding).

Chris

I feel like we're still not there yet in VR.  I've got a Reverb G2 and don't fly much in VR. For starters the sweet spot is tiny, but even in the sweet spot the res is like 1080i at best and outside that it feels like 720i.

The feel there factor is pretty nice though.  But I also use a 1440p monitor and it's frustrating losing that clarity when I hop into VR.

I'll probably reinvest in VR when my 1440p clarity matches my VR experience.

I hate to be a dick, but your system (as listed in your signature) is incapable of current HMD running at their optimal visual quality.
