VoxATC IFR departure

Apologies for the two non VoxATC questions, but....

  • What is that weird graphical glitch on the left hand side of the cockpit?
  • How did you simulate low tide in the Mersey Estuary?

Awesome questions Chris!

The glitch is caused by the frame generation mod, it has problems where there is a background like a runway which is uniform texture-wise.

I control the tides didn't you know? 😉 Theres a community scenery mod at flightsim.to...

Forgive the slightly sloppy video, here's a example of a VFR departure from EGGP Liverpool.

This is where I learned to fly, and this is fairly reflective of how it can be at times 🙂  Bonus points if you know the Liverpool VRP's and can tell me what can be improved with this still... 😉

It all looks good and all that, but unfortunately speech recognition has never worked with my voice. So when trying SI for the first time I was blown away that it actually understood everything I said. So any program that uses speech rec, will never work out for me.. That is what keeps me away from VOX ATC and others using speech rec.

Looking forward to this...

Nothing wrong with the voices, I suspect the British local accent may play a part...But, if you fly in Britain what do you expect (No, don't answer that lol)

I'd be willing to take up that challenge.  🙂  We have voice recognition training for vox that might overcome it.

The video of the VFR departure is exceptional stuff. Kudos to the developer. I got FSHud recently and am genuinely blown away by how good it is. This too looks like it's focusing on the right things (i.e. accuracy and reliability) first and foremost which I really respect. I feel the developer of FSHud has a similar attitude which has got his product so far so I have high hopes for this one as well.

Being from India, it's always been difficult for me to use speech recognition made to suit accents in the West so I do hope button control can be added eventually. However the local liverpool accent in that video was remarkable. I like to fly VFR in the UK so keeping a keen eye on the development of this!

A question on the performance side of things, do you notice any stutters when VOX is injecting the traffic in the sim?

What would you like to see demonstrated? 😄

Button control! 🙂 I don't know where exactly but I did read something about basic button control being implemented right now. I'd love to see that in action. I currently am using FSHud and BATC but I am always interested in another ATC app. There is something I really like about BATC but it's really very unreliable and buggy at this moment (yes, EA, but still...). FSHud is great and far more reliable but I am not sure about the phraseology and how complete it really is. I get the impression VoxATC is all about realistic phraseology (right?) and procedures (right?) but I am not sure if it's FAA and ICAO or just FAA. What I do like about VoxATC is that it also does VFR and GA. Something FSHud nor BATC do.

After using BATC for a few months now (and FSHud for a few years) I am beginning to see more and more that I am really interested in realistic and reliable (!) procedures. I want ATC to do its job properly. Everywhere. And if it does I don't really care too much about the voices. BATC voices are great but I don't really care (anymore) as long as ATC itself sucks.

Anyway, since I won't be using voice VoxATC only becomes of real interest to me when button control is implemented so... I am looking forward to see that in action.

EDIT
Asked the same on Discord just now.

That's my sentiment too. I thought voice quality was the big thing, but it isn't.

For those who are interested:

"Full button control is unlikely to come in initial release, I'm afraid, as Vox's raisin d'etre is of course voice communications. It's on the roadmap though."

This is correct, priorities may change, who knows?  If button control only is a deal breaker for you, head on over to our Discord and tell us.  At the moment, there is insufficient evidence of extensive demand that this is a deal breaker that's worth the development time to make it happen before release.

Thanks, the VFR departure still needs tweaking.  Also, I haven't shown you arrival and zone entry yet... 😉

The accent was one of the Cereproc SAPI voices, and whilst it was close to Liverpool, it's Sue voice | CereProc Text-to-Speech

I haven't noticed stutters with vox controlling AI no.  Its possible in BIG airports with LOTS and LOTS of aircraft, maybe?  Hard to say since its so dependent on your use case, location and PC.

Might have to do with the name VoxATC... 😉 I think a lot of button users move on after reading that name. But it's an odd thing, really... It seems voice users are er... more vocal when it comes to sharing their wishes. I also noticed this with BATC: during beta I often had the idea I was the only button user and I even had to convince the team that there are more button users out there who might be interested in BATC and that adding button support might be a good idea. Also take note that FSHud is pretty popular and... it's button only, no voice option at all! So everyone who is using FSHud might get interested in VoxATC if button control will be added.

But anyway, I fully understand this isn't a priority for VoxATC, certainly not before the initial release. But don't forget there are more button users out there than you might think...! 😉

Is it similar to windows voice recognition training? That didnt work out for me in the past.

Problem is my voice can also change on a daily basis. E.g, one day I may smoke a blunt, that will change my voice, so all the training will be for nothing, another day I might be little bit drunk and that also changes my voice and messes with the training. Some days I might have to whisper, so I dont wake up the whole family if flying late. SI seems too accept all my strange voice conditions:p. Im 99% sure it will not work out for me… Also Im pretty sure the robotic voices will kill my immersion…much more so than not having traffic injected(wich SI and BATC will also feature in the future).

If you roll it out with a demo, I might give it a try…
