I was wondering if anybody is familar with the New Zealand area where they filmed the mountains in the Lord of the Rings? Are there any airport nearby to fly out of to see some of the landscapes that was used in LOTR? Yea I'm already expecting some cracks on this post.Eric

Load this in Google Earth: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=69500It shows the locations used for filming. In Flight Simulator, I'd recommend starting in the southern alps -- say, at Mt. Cook (NZMC) or Milford Sound (NZMF). The elevation for NZMF is wrong in the default scenery, but it's fun anyway. If you search in the AVSIM file library, there's another Google Earth file that will show all the airports and navaids in FSX. You can superimpose this with the Lord of the Rings file mentioned above, and find more airports with nearby shooting locales.

And if you like mountain flying ... don't miss the Grand Tetons in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Hi EricThere was a fair bit of filming in the Queenstown area. Head east from Queenstown to find the Anduin River. At Glenorchy head north and that's where they superimposed Isengard. Mt Doom is NZ's biggest volcano close to NZRU. If you fly south of Alexandra (follow the main road), you find the fields where the battle scene with the wargs was filmed.Anyhow, you may want to investigate some NZ scenery: http://www.simpilotexperience.com - however it's payware.Cheers,Christian

Yes, if you have a high res mesh, then you can certainly fly around the little hill where Edoras is located.http://www.windowlight.co.nz/images/what02.jpghttp://www.windowlight.co.nz/images/what01.jpgThe 'Lord of the Rings Location Guidebook' gives the location as S43 32.899 E170 58.212Godzone Virtual Flight, for 'Real New Zealand' sceneryhttp://www.windowlight.co.nz

There is excellent payware scenery for this area. I recommend starting with "Roads and Rivers of New Zealand" (20 euros):http://www.simpilotexperience.com/flight-s...ew-Zealand.htmlThis and some freeware mesh will make the whole region look fantastic. You should also get the same developer's freeware landclass: http://www.simpilotexperience.com/flight-s...-downloads.htmlThere are more excellent products, from this developer and from Godzone (which is already linked to in this thread). But "Roads and Rivers" will transform the whole country for not a lot of money (especially if you pay in euros).
