May 30, 20242 yr Active Sky FS is my choice for weather in MSFS 2020. And I suspect that discriminating users are not going to be satisfied with the default weather in MSFS 2024 either. For the vast majority of casual flight simmers, the Meteoblue mishmash of METARs and forecasts is sufficient. But for people who want their aviation weather in their sim to match real world conditions, one of the 3 major weather injectors is a better choice. It's remarkable to me that xEnviro, Rex and HiFI created decent weather engines for MSFS, considering that all SDK calls pertaining to weather were deprecated. Could the weather component in the sim be better? Of course it can. But that's up to Asobo.
May 30, 20242 yr Its funny... some are completely satisfied with the weather that MS/ASOBO is giving. I am going to assume by the comments a good number if not most would like to see improvements. I can state a few 1. More variance in cloud types 2. The improvement in cloud depiction (fix the oil on canvas and ash cloud look) 3. A return to some element of danger when flying into certain cloud types (CB with convection for example) in certain weather conditions. 4. Increased instances of Lightning where appropriate (Got nerfed way too hard) 5. Properly adding a tilt feature with the Asobo radar since an api is out of the question. 6. Enhancing the turbulence. (Clear air and other types) I would like these improvements done within MS/ASOBO since there may be contractual hurdles that prevent the publication of any development tools that access or manipulate meteoblue's data. So i have no issue at the end of the day for Mr. Clark to join the team if he (or someone else that is capable) can do the job. I don't care who gives me these improvements. If that team includes Damian in a similar vein to Working Title then great. If plans are afoot already or things are already improved in MSFS2024 and are planned to be backported to MSFS2020 then this whole discussion would be kind of moot and hopefully ActiveSky can come up with a more unique feature set that satisfies end users demanding more granularity in the weather. I personally do not use ActiveSky at the moment because of reasons ive previously stated in a different thread. But i don't dislike Damian or his company to dismiss them joining forces with ASOBO to improve the end product. That would be silly. Contracts can be amended or measures can be implemented to avoid a breach with amicable negotiations between/among parties. Not sure how my comments above translated into having beef with anyone. Bringing on Mr Clarks company would have to be done with the blessing of everyone involved as it was when Working title was brought in to work on Garmin's products. The way I see it is that Damian has contributed in a huge way to the simming community over the years, which IMO is commendable. I'm very happy that HiFi decided to develop ASFS for MSFS, as I think it does offer considerable benefits vs default weather. I can also appreciate that ASFS is not by any means perfect, and I can understand that for many people, loosing fronts and local weather is a deal-braker. I was not going to comment, as I didn't want to add fuel to the fire, but I felt Damian could use some support. Which in no way equates to me deifying or worshipping him. I will echo everything that my learned friend @Cpt_Piett has stated. I think sometimes some of us don't fully realise how difficult it can be to work with MSFS as a developer. I have had direct experience with 3 separate devs, and each have had tremendous struggles with getting products to work in MSFS. Lots of effort and graft goes into making this stuff, and it saddens me when people descend to sniping and personal attacks. Also I don't deify anyone or anything. I bought ASFS because I wasn't satisfied with the quality and variability of the default weather. (For anyone who is, your opinion is just as valid (for you) as mine in for me.) ASFS has improved my sim experience, I'm grateful to @Damian Clark for that. Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS

I just flew on Delta from ATL to SFO back to ATL and then from ATL to FLL and back to ATL. The ONLY clouds I saw across those thousands of miles were CUMULUS. Granted there were various types of cumulus especially as we dodged storms all over the place, and the turbulence was awful - but not one stratus and not one cirrus cloud to be seen. Oh - and the most common cloud type across the globe? Stratocumulus.

There's some that see it how I wrote it and there's some that don't. It's okay to voice an opinion, just like the myriad of addons for MSFS that people either love or hate.
