May 28, 20242 yr Anything on the horizon or did all the developers just hit the brakes after Sim Update 15?
May 28, 20242 yr As 2020 will continue as it's own product, that is unlikely. I also think many will continue using 2020 for quite some time, so perhaps it's just a co-incidental dead-space. Although I assume most developers perhaps are part of the beta testing of 2024... Edited May 28, 20242 yr by ErichB
May 28, 20242 yr As long as i have my addons to fly in the current sim, i see no reason to go "2024". They will at some point try to force people into 2024 as they did with Windows, but until then... So i might be a bit concerned devs might stop developing stuff which will work in the current iteration. I think the inproved coding and likely performance gains will convince most of us to buy MSFS 2004 irrespective of anything else that is new. Personally, I will wait a little while, watch a few videos and read a few reviews before taking the plunge, but I am sure that I will be buying it unless MS do something silly like making it subscription based, expect us to buy expansion packs or remove aircraft I regularly use. MS have alteady said that most FS2020 addons should work in FS2024 BTW. May 28, 20242 yr Why should they hit the brakes? Some developers, in fact, were waiting for SU15 before releasing their products -- the Black Square Dukes for example (though they at some point decided they didn't want to postpone any longer). And there's tons more stuff in the pipeline -- the PMDG 777, the TFDi MD-11, the JustFlight Fokker 70/100 and RJ, the BlueBird 757/767, the FBW A380, the DFDS A350, the AzurPoly Jaguar... In terms of scenery, there's Aerosoft Frankfurt, Marcus Nyberg / JetStream Design Geneva, Flightbeam SFO... just to name some of the ones I can think of right now.

I’ll go for 2024 asap but if it doesn’t work or there’s issues with aspects that I use, I’ll keep fs2020 ticking along as a back up. FS2024 will likely evolve loads like fs2020 has, so it potentially might not be fully polished at the start.

I will have to analyze. I hand-picked my hardware for my needs, getting over 100fps everywhere and on very complex airports around 80, so i see no reason to get more. FG and DLSS are very good nowadays and seeing my PC use ~160W while flying is a pleasure in itself. May 28, 20242 yr Promises of improved performance I hear a lot, Users of 2020 know that promise is more often than not some improvement of one aspect at the cost of something else. I might get the new game eventually but not really seeing any reason to jump on it straight off. I've said before, SU5-6 was about the peak of goodness for my type of usage in msfs 2020.

Plenty on the horizon, and no, developers are not "hitting the brakes" just because MSFS won't get another SU (SU16) until early 2025. Those developers with early access to MSFS 2024 will probably be looking to take advantage of its new capabilities especially when it comes to aircraft development. But I imagine all devs are just proceeding ahead business as usual, with the aim of their future add-ons working in MSFS 2020 and also 2024 if the timing aligns. As for examples for aircraft add-ons (payware) in the works: PMDG 777 (this year), PMDGF 737 max, PMDG 747, Fenix A321/A319 (this year), iniBuilds A350 (this year), iniBuilds A380, etc.. also freeware like FBW A380, and I'm sure a lot of GA birds too. The good thing is folks not wanting to make the quick jump to MSFS 2024 can keep using MSFS 2020 (at least a few years of support declared beyond this year), and SU16 will come in 2025, as will more backporting of 2024 features where feasible per what they've said in recent Q&As. Len 1980s: Sublogic FS II on C64 ---> 1990s: Flight Unlimited I/II, MSFS 95/98 ---> 2000s/2010s: FS/X, P3D, XP ---> 2020+: MSFS Current system: i9 13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 4800 RAM, 4TB NVMe SSD
May 28, 20242 yr For me, it is pretty much business as usual. I don't think 2024 is going to be this massive "line in the sand". 2020 is going to keep on running. We don't even have a release date for 2024 yet (obviously the name implies later this year, but delays happen). In theory, most add-ons are supposed to work (we'll see how that actually goes). About the only thing I am holding off on is any kind of sim altering add-ons that may not be needed in 2024. However, I'll still buy planes and airports. As far as when I jump to 2024, who knows. I think most of us are in "wait and see" mode. Maybe it really will be seamless. I know I have no urge to be on the "bleeding edge". It is only a matter of when, but I'm certainly not rushing to be first in line. Microsoft has an event planned for its gaming in June 9th. We should know a lot more by then. MS likes to keep things quiet. Assuming 2024 is coming this year, we should start hearing about betas starting up (they may already be going on and people are under an NDA). ------------------------- Craig from KBUF

May 28, 20242 yr Millions will switch to FS24 because its also part of the MS Game Pass, and there is no reason for all the Xbox players to stay with 2020 (if the aircraft and airports are basically compatible - what i assume). So i predict, the market for FS24 will grow very fast while the FS20 market will shrink equivalent. I will do so as soon as FS24 is available on Steam. If there are 1-2 addons not compatible - then i wont cry for them. May 28, 20242 yr Yep. As with all previous versions... FS2000, 2002, FS9 (2004), FSX... And previous versions will be quickly abandoned again as with previous versions.
