Washington Center anamoly

I did an IFR flight in the Lear 45 from Westchester Co. NY state to Glynco Jet Terminal in S.E. Georgia. It was a good flight but...Over South Carolina, Washington ARTCC told me to contact Jacksonville ARTCC. OK fine, no problem. Later, I'm still flying over South Carolina and I'm told to contact the Washington Center. Huh? OK, I continue flying over Georgia, and I'm handed off to the Savannah TRACON. That sounds right. But later, WHILE OVER GEORGIA, I'm handed back to Washington Center. I'm certain that GA is NOT in the Washington ARTCC coverage area, nor for that matter is S. Carolina. This has to be a bug in the program...but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced same, or similar.Bob

I have experienced the same thing flying over southern ontario talking to cleveland center, and eastern ontario talking to boston center... while still in Canadian airspace. I would be curious to see how to modify those files, there are a few frequencies around where I fly that have changed, and a few where the area of coverage has changed. As far as washington center, a simplified chart of the area can be seen here:http://microvoltradio.com/ARTCC/KZDC.htmto the extreme south is jacksonville center and southwest would be atlanta center... you can see washington center bites a smidge of south carolina. As far as FSX's ATC logic in frequency switching, there seems to be a "lead in factor". I believe it to be about 1 minute before you enter the airspace, ATC will hand you to the future "controller". There is also a lead in when climbing or descending, which can be quite annoying if you are at an altitude boundary. The best example is a flight I had from San Antonio to Dallas flying over Austin, Texas. I was climbing to 12,000 feet, as I climbed I was told to contact Houston Center. As I leveled off I was told to go back to Austin Approach, and as turbulence hit or any altimeter change (flying with ASX), I was shifted back and forth between Austin Approach and Houston Center 5 times. Really annoying!

I have had the same thing in real life-for example flying south from Michigan to Florida Indy Center comes in and out at the strangest times-back and forth. Before calling it a bug I would investigate the center coverage. I have also experienced the handoffs from one to another almost immediately upon contact. It really is a matter of who owns the airpspace and what altitude you are at causing you to go in and out-and it does happen in the real world. I think it was this summer where I was flying over Los Angeles-contact La approach-contacted-contact Socal approach-contacted-then immediately-contact La approach-after told to contact -socal ...Where I find the problem with fs is flying instrument approaches-the handoffs are not always right there.http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

I fly over Southern Ontario quite a bit and the southern part is controlled by both Detroit and Cleveland center...It all depends on the altitude and who's airspace you are in. It is wierd to be flying over Windsor, Ont. airport and being controlled by Detroit-and over Point Pelee and being controlled by Cleveland-but at my altitudes that is what I get.http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

FSX ATC is a pet peeve for me- generally very good, but approaches are a disaster. I always take the visual- the vectors to final are much better even if I do end up on an ILS. Flying to Atlanta, I've been vectored into Birmingham's airspace (yes, that far).
