A miracle ? LSFG (Lossless Scaling Frame Generation)

Recommended Posts

@elee,

I have a 3090 Ti, with a 55 inch Philips 4k HDR monitor and a cheapo HP 1280 x 1024 non-HDR monitor, both connected to the 3090.

Windows 11, whatever the latest version is.

The monitors are set as separate screens,

MSFS runs in "full screen" mode (but remember that is actually a form of windowed mode with MSFS)

I have set my monitor (the HDR one) capped to 60 FPS (global) and 30 FPS (for MSFS) in the NVidia Control Panel, and the Frame Rate Limit within MSFS set to "100% monitor refresh rate" (so - 30)

Within Lossless Scaling - scaling type = off, Frame Gen Mode = x2, everything else eithe off or auto apart from HDR support = ON and Draw FPS = ON.

I then use the default key press to turn it on/off as required when MSFS is running.

Before Lossless Scaling, I get typically 40-45 FPS in a quiet bit of the world (at 4k, ultra settings and with TLOD = 400), but it can get down in the 10-20 range in heavy scenarios. Now, by capping at 30 (less than I can get) but doubling I get a mainly pretty smooth ride most of the time, and even the heavy scenery locations are doubled to give me maybe 40-45 after doubling.

Personally, not noticed any major glitches.

Hope that helps

The latest driver 556.12 is out, has anyone tried it with the app running to see if it has improved the experience?

Hopefully better than the previous driver. I didn’t have the courage to use it due to IslandSimPilot’s warning.

I just bought Lossless Scaling after watching the YouTube video by @Captain Piett

Now I'm a bit confused about whether I need to set up anything in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

My system is as follows:

  • GPU: 4090
  • Monitor: 144Hz G-Sync

I use native FG in the sim without VSync.

Should I set my frame limit to 72 FPS in the NVIDIA Control Panel for MSFS?

King regards!

Stefan

@Dustoff I spent quite a bit of time getting rid of tearing. I solved it by turning g-sync off in NCP (g-sync is not supported anyway by lossless scaling). Next step was to make sure the lossless fps exactly matched my monitor refresh rate. Which was the tricky part.

In your case you could limit fps to 72 in NCP which with x2 should give you 144. It should be quite obvious if there's tearing or not.

What I'm not sure about however, is what to do with Vsync in NCP and also Vsync and "allow tearing" in the lossless app. In general I found all the settings in the lossless app quite confusing.

I don't do anything. I simply let DWM deal with that.

I'll try that. So you don't touch Vsync or allow tearing in the app, and have Vsync off in NCP?

I've taken a break from lossless but I did test it briefly yesterday. Got bad stutters so probably didn't get the settings right.

What frequency is your ram running out now with XMP? Just interested!

My clock is 3192 (3200) base (DDR makes 6400 of course)

For what it's worth, I didn't change any settings in order to run Lossless Scaling - and I'm one of the lucky people who seems to have had good results with no issues by keeping it simple.

Specifically on Gsybc: I have a Gsync monitor and set it up for Gsync a while ago with all the settings that are ludicrously scattered all over the place in Windows and the NVIDIA app. I didn't change any of them when I installed Lossless Scaling: in my experience, it just ignores Gsync and runs the monitor at its max refresh rate (in my case 144Hz).

Vsync: Vsync is always off for me.

Zero tearing, zero artefacts.

This is on: 4090, 14900ks (while it lasts: this is my third chip and will no doubt fail again soon 🙄), 32Gb 6000CAS32. Main monitor (which I select for Lossless Scaling) is Gsync-compatible 4k, HDR; second monitor is also 4k.

6000, without EXPO 4800, was able to OC to 6400 and tighten the timings a little.

I would do similar if I had a 3090 ti too. But I have a 4070. After several days on and off, I no longer use LSFG. But it's a no brainer for anyone with a 3000 series card because it works great when used by itself and not alongside other FG enablers. Other FG apps can't do things as well as LSFG does.

By the way, I never fly with FG off. Because my system does not have the horsepower for that. I can live with artifacts. I can't live with a slideshow.
