Benifits of using ASX in networked mode?

Recommended Posts

Guest V4DIV-CVN-70

Hello, I just purchased ActiveSky X from HiFi and was reading that I could run it on my laptop and connect to FSX using simconnect. Are there any benifits to doing it this way?

>Hi,>>I'll answer here!>>1. You gain a screen to watch the map and so on.>2. You do gain some memory and resources on the main FSX>machine and we know that FSX needs all of those you can give>it.>>Happy Holidays,>Jim>>http://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpg>http://www.hifisim.com/Hey Thanks,Well I dont know if I will even keep using it. I have been flying tonight and noticed a BIG (4-5) FPS hit. I may uninstall it. may have been wasted money.... :(PS. Jim, I dont mean to offend, I just worked so hard to get my frame rates to 19-18 that I hate to see them drop again.

Hi,Complex weather in ASX will lead to some hit. I can't really agree that 4-5 FPS is a BIG hit. There is still so much more you can do: limit cloud layers, try with high priority processes both on and off, adjust cloud draw distance in FSX, just to name a few. Please give things a chance.Edit: I am getting 25-30 on my 3+ year old machine.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

Around JFK it dsrops to about 14. Flying a Maule in Alaska and I was getting 170fps.You have the power, you just need to tweak a bit. I guarantee that once you get it right and are flying with ASX you won't fly w/o it.Good luck - VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.6Evga 680i A1 with P31 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx Nvidia Beta 169.13 driversKandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-supporter-sigbanner.jpgRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

>>WOW>>you see my specs? And thats all I get. >You oughta get much better frames than that with your hardware. Look at my 3 year old single core machine, it is beating your new quad core! That should not be.If you were only getting 17-18 before ASX, then I'd say you had a problem before ASX. If it were me I would read the "System Optimization" pinned thread in the Hardware Forum here...I know it's long, but it is super-helpful, at least to me it was.Something is hogging your cpu power and you need to get to the bottom of what it is.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

First Post, so please be gentle, as I am also of retirement age, but believe myself to be "fairly knowledgeable" on PC's. I have been building my own since 1986[ish].I just wish I COULD get ASX to work across the network. I have other "stuff" working fine, but using FSUIPC for those. Simconnect and myself do not seem to get on at all :( and the network documentation could use updating to account for SP2 [Acceleration]. The example files have changed significantly !!I have tried many times to complete same, following the instructions "to the letter" but without success so far :(I have correctly shared the folders, I can open them remotely and change files within. Any pointers welcome :)Intel Q6600 4 GB RAMVista 32 [or 64]NVidia 8800GT24" LCD Montor3 separate 500 GB drives for Vista, FSX and FSX SceneryFrames are locked at 30, but can see peaks of 200+ when "unlimited"Cheers 'n' Beers,Maurice.

I was using ASX on my client, but from day one of the release, every ASX update would cause FSX to stutter horribly (fps of 5). I gave up on a fix a couple of months ago and moved ASX over to the FSX machine. I do not know if it is now fixed with recent ASX updates and SP2.Bob...

Hi All,Anyone who has questions or problems, please start a NEW thread for each, in our fourm here at AVSIM. It is too hard to follow multiple posts and we like to keep the General forum clear of specific support posts. Bob, I really encourage you to post. Thanks All!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

Maurice,Given that you are running a quad core with plenty of RAM, I say why bother trying to run ASX over a network. Apart from the initial WX load, which actually loads FSX as much as it does ASX, the occasional WX updates by ASX have a neglible performance impact on a quad core system. Gary
