It's one and a half year passed since "snob release". What internal QA is doing?

What you call "snob release" 1,5 years ago was the release of the alpha version to early adopters. It was a very early "usable" barebones state of the plane with the basics done to play around with it in the sim for the first time, it was not beta. There were many obvious and known bugs and the plane wanted to kill you every 5 minutes with a nose dive. I wouldn't call it release, rather CE customers were given access to the development process at this point - there were not even sounds or spinning engines. This version is nowhere comparable to the first public release of the plane, because the differences are night and day.

Internal QA and voluntary testers were and are doing their jobs good enough I'd say, everything is and was reported several times and in the end, it's in the developers hand to fix it. There's also a github page visible to the public with all former and still existing issues, so at least it was transparent all the time.

Bugs like the one you mentioned seem obvious and "easy to fix", when in reality there are often dependencies or other stuff making it difficult to find a quick solution.

The argument to delay the release to fix things like that first before give the plane to the public was already discussed more than once. But it is what it is, the past can't be changed. But I think one should rather be glad that important fixes are coming now, better late than never.

I just finished the flight with the latest build as of last night being 1.05.  Other than a minor issue with the parking brake which was not actually an issue the flight was flawless.  It flew really nice and no more fighting the up and down movements and no more strange AP issues at random times.  In fact it might be a little bit too easy now since I have read on an aviation forum (not the big one) that it is a bit sensitive in real life on pitch sensitivity.  So TFDi might have to add a bit back in keeping it challenging but best to leave it for the experts who really flew it setting it right.

My biggest issue was excessive flap drag which seems mostly fixed now.  Before it had so much flap drag you needed 80 to 95% N1 just to keep in the air on landing and when you finely touched down it would almost stop on its own very quickly.  Now landings are much more dramatic as they should be since the MD-11 lands fast.

When will this update be available to the regular / recent purchasers?

Very soon, most likely today, at least that is the plan. Collin (main developer) is asking around for issues and the feedback was positive. Signs are on "go", it would surprise me if it's not going live in a few hours at max.

Thanks for your heads up! I really love this bird and what you wrote sounds overall really promising. Thanks to a good friend of mine I accumulated more than 70 hours on the flightdeck jumpseats aboard Lufty Cargo MD-11Fs back from 2012 to 2016. Now I can simulate these flights in MSFS and the TFDI is really a lot of fun. Haven't touched any other aircraft since release. As you say, the landings are very interesting. I remember one particular landing when we returned from Dakar at Frankfurt in early March 2012. Just before our arrival heavy snow fall was hitting the airport, and the visibility was pretty low and we came screaming in on our final, we could finally see the runway lights about 20 seconds before touch down on a already partially snow covered runway. I definately remember the intense focus of my friend (FO) and the captain during this landing. 😃 Ten minutes after our landing the airport was closed for some hour because of the bad weather.

Can confirm. Downloaded, installed and about to test.

Ten min into test flight.  Found rotation much smoother than before tho it was not SO challenging in the release build.  Am well pleased and all other systems seem to be nominal including LNAV/VNAV/AT.

Good times, good times…

EDIT:  about five minutes from a full autoland ILS at KDSF Rwy17.  Flight has been 5/5 so far.  Unless I crash and burn in the next three min I won’t be back here

After two flights with the new update, I can say that handfly is much better now. It definitely feels a lot more like a heavy widebody jet than a Cessna 172 like before. Pitch sensitivity is very good and no more problems with excessive trim on landing.

Hi All,

Thinking about picking this up. Can somebody tell me if you can remove (or slide back) the flight deck seats?

This helps dramatically get correct viewpoint for some of us with triple monitors. I find I often need to move the eyepoint back and then zoom in given the limitations of MSFS experimental monitor setup.
