FSX and error reporting

Recommended Posts

Are these error reports actually being looked at or plugged into some sort of database for analysis after a fatal error occurs?

The biggest most critical fix in FSX SP1 was a terrain related bug.It was never reported by users - but showed up in thousands of those automated error reports.Several of the FS9 Update fixes also came from the automated error reporting - but many also came from the logging utility they asked people to install. All the windows reported errors do go into a database - and when a certain number or frequency of a common error get reported - they get escalated for detailed diagnosis. At some point - someone has to make a decision about how cost effective it is to devote manpower and other resources to fix an error. That someone is not on the ACES team but most likely a main company bean counter. In that Microsft is no different than Apple, Toyota or Boeing.Just Microsoft and Apple's reporting is automatic and probably a bit more specific about the error / issue.
