I got the no controllers but with local dimming. It will be awhile, maybe tomorrow before I can test. Or maybe tonight. Comfort is OK. The head band is a Halo with a clicking adjustment knob on the back. The knob is big and easy to turn. That halo is where the weight will rest. Very little weight on the nose or top of head. There is a strap running along the top of your head front to back. It will help the halo to support the headset a little bit. You do not have to really tighten it. the halo takes the weight. Also you can rotate the headset up to look around in your room without adjusting the mount. This is very possible unless you really crank down too tight on the halo knob.

All halos for any headset need to ride up high on the back of your head. Not down low like a non halo mount. When mounted I see very little light leak around the nose. It is as comfortable as a HP Reverb G2. And more comfortable than my Quest 2. Actually I like the fit and comfort a tad more than my Reverb G2.

Has 3 connectors: Display port, USB A , and AC mains. The long cable is stiff but about like the G2 cable, only a bit stiffer, and roughly the same length.

AC mains power adapter. There are 5 slide on prong sets for pretty much every AC power connection in the world. Little icons on these indicate to slide them on, not snap them on. (I almost pried the main adapter apart, not knowing there were those 5 little slide on thingees in another tiny cloth sack). So don't pry the adapter apart thinking that there are prongs which will rotate out. There are no prongs on the adaptor. The prongs are on the tiny slide on things.

Ergonomics I would say is A. When on your head you can't see how large the headset is, and so it's size isn't an issue for you yourself. Your family may think you look weird wearing it though :).

The build quality probably isn't as deluxe as expensive units. But looks to be about the same as the G2. No complaints about that. I hope this works like everybody says it will. I hope I don't need the 2 controllers (I didn't buy those).

By the way, it was shipped from a suburb of Los Angeles, California from a company in City of Industry that makes industrial electrical equipment. They probably are doing the final work as a Pimax subcontractor. I ordered online from China. Probably all USA sales will ship from L.A.

Thanks for sharing your first impressions. This might be my next headset when my G2 is no longer useable. Interested to hear the rest of your thoughts after you've had some time with it.

shipping was $35 USD

Tax (State sales tax in USA) $55

so that's an even $90

The headset was $799 + ship and tax = $889

You can't buy crystal light with no local dimming and no controllers.

cyrstal light with controllers but no local dimming $599 + 100 tax and ship =700

with no controllers but with local dimming $799 + tax and ship = 900

with controllers and local dimming $899 + almost $100 tax and ship $1000

(so far Pimax has not shipped any headsets to anyone that does not have local dimming because they are way behind on that model. They do have lots of them with local dimming and they have lots of controllers.)

I thought you might perhaps be able to deactivate it?

do you consider it a major advantage over VRs without local dimming for MSFS?

how long did it take from ordering until today?

I started to use an half hour ago. Pimax Play is app that must be on. The login (password) will not be accepted until you click the terms and conditions box. I could not see that box because by windows display was 150%. After reset to 100% I found the terms and conditions box and Pimax play bootedup.

But now Pimax Play says USB port OK but display port disconnected. The same issue arrives whenever I add a new monitor alongside the main two.

It is not the headset, it's Windows. Windows has to be booted up many times before Windows sees all the monitors. The headset is a monitor. But once Windows sees the monitor it will recognize it forever.

This issue has to do with power settings and Windows turning stuff on and off to save electricity. Bah ! Humbug!

I can't get this headset to turn on. Maybe tomorrow ? There's an app called pimex play. It says the display port is disconnected, but it is physically plugged in.

Well 20 minutes later, I got it to light up and running. What I had to do was keep turning off system and moving the display port and HDMI connectors all around. Eventually it worked. Now I have to boot up MSFS and see how well it performs.

=> save your order number in your stored data safe. You can't run the latest version of Pmax Play without an order number typed in the box. No big deal unless you don't know the order number.

Not sure if it is related but with my Crystal I had to reseat USB connectors every time I used it before it would recognize the headset. Not once would it work without doing that for some reason. I was using two monitors, one driven by main graphics card and one with onboard graphics.

My crystal light lights up and works, but MSFS says "no headset detected".

For USB stoppages, I go to Control manager devices and set all the many usb and human interface devices properties to uncheck the box labled: let windows disable these when not used. There are lots of these on every desktop.
