MSFS Is today's Destination your tomorrow's Departure?

Featured Replies

The question is in the title.  With how you fly MSFS, is where you fly to the point you depart from with your next flight.  As in real world?

No. I start where I choose to.

Following on, as in real life, is more realistic of course, but it is also time consuming. One new place each flight instead of two with a new flight.

I also switch aircraft a lot (airliner to GA etc.) so that is another reason it wouldn't make much sense for me.

I would consider it for a planned series of flights of course (a tour), such as from the east coast to the west coast of the US in say a C172.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I try too as much as I can. Especially if I am flying on consecutive nights.
If there is more time between flights, I just make like I caught a flight heading my way. Most likely how it goes in real life too.

Yes, when I fly for my VA. Kinda fun to see on the map with all my flights how my mind works as I choose aircraft to fly the routes available. 🙂 I also try and find the correct livery with correct registration for the flight. I did develop a bad habit flying for the VA, though. I found myself buying the airport I am flying to! That has to stop...  Or at least find a freeware alternative! I am running out of space and money! 😁

No, when I fly GA or helicopters or a new aircraft. I just love to explore my home country, flying low and slow. Makes me see how little I know of my own backyard! Kind of embarrassing, really. I try to make amends and go visit an interesting place I discover in the sim in RL.

Partially when using Neofly. I would cheat and edit the database, moving my chosen (usually) helicopter to the area of interest. Just yesterday I sent my UH-1H Huey to KDCA and had loads of fun doing Neofly missions around DC with a heavy thunderstorm approaching.

I pretty much do the same flight every time. Either there and back or just .......... there. Or I just go up unplanned and decide where to go when I'm up there. Or, and this is probably more often than not - end a flight in mid air when I get bored or decide I should really be doing something a little more productive with my spare time.  I don't take it very seriously as you can probably tell.

The only two times I start from where I previously left off are when I'm using NeoFly or doing a Tour of an area/country/whatever. All other times I just start where I want too as most of my flights are completely random.

Absolutely, yes!

And very restrictive (kind of nerdism for me, kind of compulsive)

For new addons I have starting points all over the world, but then strictly fly from there.
Using WAMA (where are my aircraft), I can also see my other parked addons there

Yes. I only fly to bespoke or addon airports. Around the maps I go. One stop after the other.

This is UK (fs.to, marketplace, simmarket, contrails, etc).

Thank all of you for the responses.  Here is why I asked.  Over the past almost four years now I have posted three different requests on the official site requesting a feature change. I asked that the World screen drop downs be organized so that the most recent Arrival is subsequently listed as a choice for the Departure point for the next flight.  Unsure if it has been a language issue or something else, but the brief responses I have received from Asobo indicate the question is not understood correctly.

My three most recent flights, each in different aircraft, have been from KMKC to KDAL (Bksq Turbine Duke); KTYQ to CYYZ (Hondajet); and an out-and-back flight from KBWI (Bksq Analog Baron).  My Turbine Duke is currently sitting at KDAL, my Hondajet at CYYZ, and Analog Baron at KBWI.  Those respectively are the points I will fly each from this week.

Note as always, the Departures only list the three most recent Departures, and likewise on the Arrival side the three most recent destinations.  All I have requested is that the World Map flight planner have the most recent Arrival airport be listed as an option on the Departure side for the following flight.

I had also requested that an option to designate a "home" airport be provided, or even a short list of Favorties, and if so, that those also be listed.  Perhaps two dropdowns on the From side, the current global, and Favorites.

Any agreement?  I would like to see MSFS 2024 show some realistic enhancements to this screen.

Frank, I fully support your suggestions. I too fly from A to B today and B to C tomorrow, C to D after tomorrow, even though I may be flying an entirely different aircraft each day, I have done that for years and never thought of jumping outside this envelope, just a matter of coherence. Most of the time (95%), my destinations are known to me in real life, so flying there is like going back in time and greatly contributes to my immersion beyond flight simming. Great initiative, thanks!

For the most part, yes.

However, when I'm learning a new aircraft or working with a specific category of aircraft (such as the Kodiak with some bush flights), I'm not going to take the Longitude out of a 800' grass strip in New Guinea. 🙂

At that point, I'll find the last appropriate airport from my flight log and continue from there.

Randall Rocke

That was a helpful question and I agree that that feature would be appreciated.

I always depart from the airport I landed in, assuming I am not changing aircraft/mission type. So, as a recent example, I might fly my Duke from Long Island (KISP) back to Oshawa (CYOO), its home base, and then my next flight is on the 777 out of Pearson (CYYZ) to London (EGLL). I am quite a nerd so I left 3 hours between my landing and my flight preparation on the 777, enough time to check in the Duke and catch an uber across the GTA to Pearson! Then tomorrow I will fly London back to Toronto and will likely take a 3 hour break and then pick up the Duke for another GA flight.
