TDS GTNXi ProUprgrade but still getting locked waypoints

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm using version 1.1.0.3 of the TDS GTNXi with the pro upgrade. When using simbrief for a flightplan, I'm often getting locked / invalid waypoints. When I was looking into this, it seems it occurs when the simbrief plan is using waypoints that the TDS doesn't have. However, since I have the pro upgrade and all my software including the TDS is up to date with the latest Navigraph data, this should not be an issue. Has anyone else had this with the upgrade? I thought that was supposed to solve any AIRAC data discrepancies.

And, while we're at it, how do I get rid of locked waypoints please and thanks?

Hello,

This has been recently discussed in the TDS Sim Software Discord channel and a solution has been posted on how to mitigate the effects of this.

At this time we have a known issue with importing GFP flight plans with some airways not importing properly. We are unsure of the cause of the issue, but we are working on a resolution so the import process should work well, this is a bit of a tough one, but not to worry, we will do our best to get it solved.

To get rid of locked waypoints, you can import the GFP flight plan, click on the Store button on the Import page (do not click on activate), then access the recently imported flight plan from the Catalog page, there you have the ability to amend all Locked waypoints.

The TDS GTNXi should be able to import user waypoints as well, so this should not be an issue. In the meantime, if you have a flight plan file (GFP) that is causing issues, please feel free to send it to us via Discord, support email or any other sources, so we can analyze it. The best and fastest way for support is via our Discord channel.

Not to worry, we will do our best to assist and resolve the issues on our end, thank you for your message.

I too have the same issue, having said that, getting rid of the "locked waypoints" is not a big deal for me, hopefully there is a fix soon.

This is likely a known issue with Garmin Aviation GPS logic. I don't know how many times I wrote about this over the years in the Reality XP forums here on Avsim.  Here is a link to an earlier conversaton for MSFS Garmin gauges.  The topic of locked waypoints starts in the third paragraph.

When the name of a waypoint has duplicates in the database, Garmin will not choose from among them for you.  Instead, it locks the flight plan down until you select which you want from that list of duplicates.  What you are describing is textbook.  Read my description in the link above about the waypoint BUNKA in the USA state of Indiana, and the African country of the Ivory Coast.  Oddly enought, I over the years have found waypoint names that are duplicated within the USA.

This also may occur when a waypoint appears on a chart to be in/on a published airway.  In fact it may lie right on the airway on the chart but not be a point in the published airway.

I think you can make duplicate names unique by appending the name with its coordinates in the gfp file, see this post in the Navigraph forum regarding the gfp export from Simbrief: https://forum.navigraph.com/t/gfp-format-garmin-gtn-wrong-export-for-ambiguous-waypoints/11182

Yes that appears to work.  However you must already know it is a duplicate name before importing the plan.  The issue raised by the original post was locked flight plans during import and thus my explanation of what was likely happening to him.

For repetitive route flying that method may be productive over time.  However for a one-time or occasional route it is more productive to merely edit/correct the issue in the flight plan in the GPS.

We would like to update our users on this bug: importing GFP flight plans which would result in locked waypoints:
We have determined this to be related to airway importing.

This has been a TDS issue which has recently been fixed and will be included in the next TDS GTNXi release, version 1.1.0.4, which will be released today. We thank you for reporting this bug as well as supporting us in getting it fixed, it has been a tough one, but we are glad to hear that by fixing it, we will improve the TDS GTNXi Pro experience and provide a great product to our users.

As always, please enjoy the TDS GTNXi Pro!

Best regards.
