Your bandwidth is too low... this is getting ridiculous

These networking issues have come up in numerous postings here on AVSIM and someone always suggests using a VPN

Update MSFS without a VPN = slow or zero MBs.  turn VPN on and 100 plus MBs constantly.

  • Well, that's an entirely separate and very personal question! *  But the bandwidth issues does seem to happen a lot recently. The few flights I've made since the UK update have often had a warnin

  • I expect these issues vary depending on the strength of the internet connection and, importantly, where you are in the world. Azure reports 99.995 percent uptime, but that is global, and it is fairly

  • Yes, and Yes.  The CDN selects the best server to connect to based on your IP address, if you're connecting via a VPN it will use that IP which may be less that ideal.  There's also overhead with a VP

I know, there's probably a ton of similar topics lately on Avsim. Just needed to vent a little. I'm getting this message pretty much every flight, sometimes several times per flight. It happened in the current flight and I had to go to menu=>data and turn bing data world graphics back on. Took a few minutes for that to happen.

It's just such a nuisance... Is there anything that can be done about this from a user perspective? I'm using a VPN, does that influence things? Should I have it off?

Just use the map enhancement tool if MSFS servers are slow,

I can't say that I've ever had the bandwidth issues after the first 6 months of MSFS's release.

As with the issue earlier today when we were stuck on the 'checking for updates' screen I expect that there are many folk who think there is something wrong with their PC or internet connection and set about trying to rectify it by googling a remedy and end up trashing their sim. The sim needs to flag up what the problem is instead of leaving people to guess!

I don't understand the point of the Bandwidth Too Low pop-up. There's nothing you can do about it right that second anyway, so why have it at all? It's incredibly annoying in VR as it pops up right in your face.

Totally impressive, but could you share with the community the identity of your internet provider so others might be warned? It sounds like they have way better bandwidth in the last mile to your location than they have to the rest of the world except your VPN. I didn't know that could happen so thanks for sharing. Is this a common situation?

I usually use it, but currently exploring WU17, hence want to use default. No issues during last flight though (no VPN). Too early to tell if it's VPN-related.

Wow. Wish I was that lucky.

No VPN here and I was getting the "Low Bandwidth" message, on and off, a couple of weeks ago. No issues since so I'm putting it down to server hiccups.
Using the map enhancement mod as well.

Test vpn on load flight fps 38. Turn vpn off, fps still 38.

With vpn still off, change from windowed to full screen. 53

Now back to windowed 53

So with VPN off, I have to go from either full screen to windowed and then back or vice versa if I want to fly full screen. (Pause VPN, Alt Enter, wait a few seconds, Alt Enter again).

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I have seen quite a few streamers this week have the issue as well, they were mostly Europe based. I don't recall ever having it and I have a few long hauls under the belt, but I have also never flown with photogrammetry on.

I might try some VPN OFF simming also with PG OFF and see what this does. To be honest, I never interact with PG really as like a lot of us I go from one big custom made airport to another, If I'm low over a PG city centre in the Fenix then I'm doing it wrong! yes some exceptions like London or other but I hardly take a look at it.

Also seeing this the past few weeks, again as some saying mostly in Europe.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

I use a crappy DSL so I often have this message, very annoying. And even more annoying when the sim switch off photogrammetry automatically.

Landed to Nashville yesterday night and the runway was pixelized and was ugly.

I hope to switch to fiber internet later this year but it seems people still have some bandswidth problems anyway.

Most of the time there is an update for the Gaming services, check the MS store... we had an update yesterday...

This is an Microsoft issue.  I don't use a VPN at all unless I'm downloading an update for MSFS.  Not sure how the last mile comes into play when my internet is by Starlink.
