Your bandwidth is too low... this is getting ridiculous

Due to the global negative internet events in the past month no one should scrutinize recent MSFS online behavior.

  • Well, that's an entirely separate and very personal question! *  But the bandwidth issues does seem to happen a lot recently. The few flights I've made since the UK update have often had a warnin

  • Yes, and Yes.  The CDN selects the best server to connect to based on your IP address, if you're connecting via a VPN it will use that IP which may be less that ideal.  There's also overhead with a VP

its no different to the pot holes all around the town i live in, they could be fixed and filed in by next month,  if they plowed alot pf peoples time. and more importantly lot of money into fixing them

Many moons ago at easyjet they used to use Jeppesens Ops Control, then rebranded to Jetplanner,  a load of companies back in the day (before Lido turned up) used it,  It was at the time the leading flightplanning system out there,  The only real competetion was FWZ and PPS,.

Jeppesen had 3 servers.  easyJet was on server 1. Because at the time they were the largest customer with the most aircraft than the other operators using it,  They also paid a premuim for that server 1, there very own server.

Server 2 was used by all the other operators, and server 3 was the back up server for one and 2/

As easyJet got bigger and bigger and more aircraft were added to the database,  server 1 became under more and more presssure, it started to have issues and lots of them,

Long sorry cut short, easyJet said to Jeppsen you either give us 2 servers or we go somewhere else, (after alot of kissing of buttocks from jeppesen)

Lufthansa got whiff of their woes and came in with "lido" that had just came on the market and off they went to Lido along with british airways.  The rest of the market soon followed and stayed up until today.  Its the industry leading flightplanning platform.  Nothing comes close

Similar story at Virgin, they used to use a flightplanning system called Phoenix,  it was a rubbish line based system plauged with issues,  A company called FW;Z  (then rebarsned as sabre then as cae) came to them, promised them the earth and fuel cost saving to make your eyes water,  Virgin bit the bullet and got it,  5 years later they tried to take them to court for not providing what they promised, they got conned

and here we now are with Ms2020 with a huge user base and servers that creak and waiver every weekend, Just like jeppesens issue with easyJet

Its my opinion, they could fix the server issues tomorrow, but again its peoples time and money.  This cash cow has been flogged already its now all about the next one, ms2024.

People wanted a live service this is what we get.

People are delighted with the photographic scenery everywhere on earth.
If this is the best way to deliver it, then good.
Mostly, it works extremely well and apart from reporting the occasional "outage",
time is better spent enjoying it, than writing on the internet to complain every time
there is a small glitch.

Although lately I don’t think we can look at these issues as small glitches. It seems some users are not as affected (perhaps this applies to you), but IMO these issues can really affect enjoying the global photographic scenery.

Also define "occasional", this calender year has been blighted with server issues, much more so than in previous years.

I expect these issues vary depending on the strength of the internet connection and, importantly, where you are in the world. Azure reports 99.995 percent uptime, but that is global, and it is fairly well known that there are significant regional variations. That is why these conversations here in a global forum can be challenging. We will all have a different experience, even those living in North American and Europe, perhaps especially Europe. As an example, for me, even in the midst of the Cloud Strike kafuffle I lost access to MSFS for only about two hours; and this week with the DOS attack and its aftermath I was basically unaffected; it took about 3 times as long to get past the checking for updates screen but once it passed everything worked fine in MSFS. I have had 1 instance of the 'Low Bandwidth" message this month and it fully reconnected after about 1 minute; and the last time that happened had to be over a year ago. But others are experiencing more prolonged and frequent issues that really interfere with enjoying the game, and this is just regional implementation of the cloud network: building and updating data centers and the power and network infrastructure they depend on.

When the details of what MS and Asobo had put together became clear back in 2020 I was excited to see what MSFS2020 could do but expected a good deal of interruption, particularly to specific services in the tech stack. Those concerns never really materialized and on the whole the service has worked quite well, for the vast majority of people. Certainly, if you gave me the choice of 100 percent full uptime in a previous generation, offline, simulator or 90 or 80 percent uptime in MSFS I will choose MSFS with no hesitation.

Fully agree, your post reflects my situation perfectly. Last I had the "too low ..." message was a loong time ago, so definitely big variations in how people are affected.

i saw it the other day and thought it was my end.  i thought it was my router over heating in the summer heat, causing the bandwidth to drop.

its quite common in the UK now to get the other "lost connection" mesage on a sat afternoon  or evening.   Its my opinion that theres simply too many people using the servers and they are struggling, again if you added more servers at a cost to MS you would solve the issues.  They wont do that its money.

This thread quickly shows the differences and that we are not all experiencing the same thing when using the simulator.

However, it is not a simple matter of add more servers and then it will become faster for everyone. If that is all it was, I am confident it would have been done. There are a lot of variables and there are a host of considerations, some technical, some social, and, yes, some economic.

No connection problems in my part of the world. I think I’ve seen the green lost connection icon 2 or 3 times since the initial launch in 2020. The sim was off line for maybe 5-10 seconds before the connection was re-established.

with the momentary state of service by MS I'm only "moderate" interested in MSFS2024. Server issues since one year, Xbox stuff problems and no marketplace updates... maybe buying some new hubcaps instead

It's amazing that people have such different experiences with this thing. I guess location could matter. Btw after I stopped using VPN a few days ago, I haven't encountered the issue.
