See that AUTO knob below HDG? Is it on AUTO? It's the bank angle selector. You could try manually trying different settings. 25 degrees is the highest setting.

a self described 'casual' simmer

To the OP. IF you have a good sound system or bass heavy headset.. You CAN have a blast starting cold (on runway if you like) and try to start the engines up from a checklist (only takes 5 mins max).

There is nothing quite like the spool up bass noises this big bad bird can make when cranked thru a sub. If you start with engines on you miss out on that!

Hi Russell, thanks for this, and I have an ok soundbar on my monitor so I'll try that. I doubt you'll manage to convert me to cold starts but it might be fun!

One of the things that amuses me about the whole casual/serious simmer thing is that I get the feeling that there are more than a few folk in this environment who have maybe one or two addon aircraft, and maybe a couple of addon airports, but consider themselves "serious simmers" simply because of their level of intensity with their chosen plane. Well, that's fine, and like I said I don't have a problem with that at all. But there are many of us out here with huge numbers of aircraft in their hangars (I have around 200 payware and 100 freeware aircraft in mine), and masses of addon airports and other scenery-related items (950 payware, 600 freeware for me). Personally, I consider that to be a pretty serious level of involvement.

There's probably a bell-curve* to be drawn with the likes of me at one end of the curve and the home cockpit builders at the other. Where you want to be on that curve is a personal decision, but that curve is not a measure of "seriousness" or "committment", simply an indicator of what you're interested in and what's important to you. You can be anywhere on that curve and still be "casual" or "serious" about the sim, however you use it.

This has all wandered way off my original post, but hey, this is avsim, right?

(*maybe not a bell curve, but you get the idea <grin>)

No worries I'm not trying lol! It's just sometimes you might only have like 20 mins before you have go and do something irl so not enough time for a sim flight but hmm let's see if I can get this famous big jet to start on my own! If you can't be bothered with a flight plan you can start it in 5 mins easy. Forget all the safety tests tests, just speedrun it 😁

I also have a massive investment in addons but am the opposite to you I guess!

I used to pretend I was an escaped spy/ air force pilot who would have 5 mins maybe 10 if I kept my virtual head down to start up and steal the enemies jet, then fly it over the nearest border to safety. Felt really good especially as James Bond himself would only 'borrow' small planes not commercial airliners!

My flight 'plan' might only be 50 miles to cross the border and land but I had a real blast doing that. Fly it like you stole it ✈️😁... For your country it's not theft, it's heroism lol

Have fun!

Hey Russell, I think that's the key thing here.

That's the one thing that always feels missing from a lot of the more "serious simmer" posts. They don't actually seem to be enjoying it.

Anyway, I've probably flogged this to death now, so I shall abandon this thread and go side slip a B-36 between the Petronas Towers or something.

you have fun too!

Hi - was there a fix for this? I also have a big issue with the TFDI MD11 - the yoke just will not move at all, so the aeroplane is unusable and won't take off. I am using the keyboard - it used to be fine but suddenly has stopped working completely. Do you have any info that could help me? Thanks in anticipation!!

@fletchdirect, sorry, but I have no idea. I have a stick/throttle/pedals setup so no idea about keyboard options. Not surprised to hear that standard keys aren't working though, seems to be a thing with this aircraft. Try looking on their discord (yeah, I know, discord is a bear pit but I did find my solution on there), or maybe raise that specific question on a separate thread here?

good luck.

thanks - i did reach out to TFDI direct and they confirmed that you certainly cannot use the keyboard (but it did work for me BEFORE the previous update a week or so ago). Anyway, I guess I need to get a joystick. Do you have any recommendations? What one do you use for the MD11? I don't want to get one and then run into more incompatability problems!! Thanks

I've got a CH Pro set (stick, throttle and pedals) but I wouldn't necessarily recommend them. I don't mean they're bad or anything, but they're not the cheapest (or the most expensive either) and they might not suit you as a first set of controls. Maybe something like the Thrustmaster Hotas?

Since you were using a keyboard previously, any setup will be good enough for your liking. My vote is for the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro: self-centering axis for pitch, roll and yaw, and a non-centering axis for throttle. All in an affordable package.
