MSFS 2024 and blotchy night lighting?

Featured Replies

My problem with nights in MSFS are the default airports at night. Go look in XP12 or even XP11, they are VASTLY superior. The buildings look like buildings, they are all better lit with street lights (these are DEFAULT airports, which is why I haven't purchased a single payware XP airport)... It's a PLEASURE to taxi around those at night. I hate taxiing at night in MSFS cause everything is dark, half the aircraft's taxi lights aren't bright enough, so you end up using landing lights, which shouldn't really be done in real life while taxiing unless crossing runways. Those gnarly default MSFS airport buildings that look like white squares up close? THAT is what needs most improvement. During the day, MSFS looks light years ahead of XP. At night? I will take XP12 any day. This isn't my sim/your sim discussion, but when talking about what's possible, it would be wise to look at the "competing" sim and see how much better things look at night there. Everything is lit much better, that's a fact.

That has helped me somewhat.

I've always assumed this was by design to encourage purchase of 3rd party airports.  Asobo adds lights to their enhanced airports that package with certain versions of the sim and I guess w/ World Updates where bespoke airports are included.

One thing  you should remember when flight at night in unpressurized airplane at night . You more susceptible for oxygen starvation and your eyes perceive things dimmer ! So don’t trust YouTube videos shot my hidef cam.

No, but I trust my eyes when doing repeated Emirates night flights from London to Dubai.  You can at least see the cities down below with some degree of definition.  They twinkle, shimmer, have a shape, have major roads going in and out.  You can't make out every single street, no.  But they have some definition, even if you are looking at distant cities over Iran.  They are not the entire desert glowing like a blob.  It's not oxygen starvation.
