October 2, 20241 yr October 21st is really cutting it close 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.
October 2, 20241 yr Some notes I took: new aircraft geometry for flight models: can be detailed defining/configuration of fueselage, horizontal tails, vertical tails, wings, and various other surfaces can configure multiples of these and combine to get very detailed surface geometry for the FM new core systems: electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics, brakes, liquid dropping best example of use of these is the 737 max various debug views to understand how systems are behaving live dedicated brakes system (brakes temperature affects brake performance, wear & tear i.e. overheating, etc) aircraft and career compatibility in order to be compatible with careers/missions, must meet various criteria a full list of criteria per mission/activity is documented in the SDK docs simojbect editor can review and let you know what aspects of your aircraft are not compatible in marketplace can see the full criteria list/matrix per aircraft so users can see which ones are compatible with which aviation activities/missions Q: With new physics and options will FMs need to be redone to be compatible with MSFS 2024 A: No need to be redone, due to 100% backwards compatibility, will behave just like before (existing FM can be used exactly as is) Q: will wear & tear system affect handling of aircraft A: yes ... example: if brakes are worn out then affects braking distance. Flight control surfaces being in bad condition can then lead to locking or them freely moving. Wear and tear system can be disabled in free flight. WASM modules don't run on main thread any more, run on their own thread now for performance gains (but WASM itself is not multi-threaded yet) airports can have their own modules, so can be loaded/unloaded as you approach/leave input profiles: aircraft specific profiles, device specific profiles missions SDK to come later tools-only builds have been already sent around already to 1st party dev partners (those developing for msfs 2024) SDK roll-out: SDK and first dev alpha build (sim in dev mode) will be available on Oct 21 for all marketplace partners SDK docs will be updated then on https://docs.flightsimulator.com/ https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/ will have new MSFS 2024 section Edited October 2, 20241 yr by lwt1971 Len 1980s: Sublogic FS II on C64 ---> 1990s: Flight Unlimited I/II, MSFS 95/98 ---> 2000s/2010s: FS/X, P3D, XP ---> 2020+: MSFS Current system: i9 13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 4800 RAM, 4TB NVMe SSD

Yes of course all aircraft are eligible for free flight (i.e. traditional way of using them in sims) even without meeting any of the criteria. 3rd party aircraft wishing to *also* enable their birds for whatever missions can then choose to meet the criteria (and the criteria is wide ranging, i.e. certain missions/activities require aircraft to meet certain performance specs, etc). October 2, 20241 yr Was happy to hear https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/t/since-1-25-7-drone-collision-mesh-active-with-collision-material/4174/32 is addressed as part of the 2024 SDK as it can also affect Asobo’s own handcrafted airports with buildings with interior parts. October 2, 20241 yr I really really hope that there will be no WASM related crashes - right now the situation with all inibuilds planes is unbearable (at least for me)

Think it's gonna be wise to keep MSFS 2020 installed until all our important/fav 3rd party aircraft are known to work. While most will be backwards compatible without changes there are likely to be hiccups. That said, after starting to use 2024 not sure if I'm gonna be able to go back to 2020 😅, so might have to tough it out with whatever 3rd party aircraft works in 2024 from day 1.. in any case there'll be a lot of new default aircraft (and existing ones enhanced for 2024) to be busy with in the initial days. Jeeze, most hardcore A to B flyers will skip missions and use free flight or keep using MS2020 or another option Xplane or P3D/FSX, MS and Asobo are not that stupid to lose the core simmers who use the best 3rd party addons available like PMDG, Fenix, A2A etc. People seem to be freaking out too much here.
October 2, 20241 yr "Not knowing about the 2024 SDK" has been the #1 line from the FSS support team (not even the devs at this point just the word not allowed soldiers) about why cFMS doesn't really have an implementation date, so I'm curious to see how the Oct 21st release date at least modifies the story they tell.
