Aircraft compatibility in 2024 thoughts - not great news.

Another day, another click bait video based on a tiny 'demo'.

After release it will probably get much worse with yootoobies making both "omg it's bigger than J*****" as well as "nothing works it's armageddon in the sky" videos so they can make money from both fans and critics at the same time.

We just haven't seen enough to make any educated arguments. This is all so premature and speculative.

  • Just keep an eye on the forum after it has been released 🤣

  • The way I took what asobo said on compatibility was that their own marketplace stuff would work. Like DLC produced either from Microsoft or Asobo. I don't think it was ever promised that all mark

  • You made a decent point, but it’s entirely undermined and erased by the immediate and unsupported dive into conspiracy theories.    I have no doubt that there will be plenty of patches, especia

No conspiracy theories whatsoever. For instance, Black Box have already announced that 2024 versions of their aircraft will "ABSOLUTELY have extra charge" associated with it (directly from their announcement on social media as well as the official forum... I'd expect it would be reasonable for devs to want to maximize ROI on updating their stuff to the 2024 standard. Big Radials have also said that the pricing WILL be different on the 2024 versions of their aircraft. I would suspect PMDG are also going to charge for upgrades. No conspiracy theories at all. Just a feeling I am getting.

Yes, it may be true that the tech alpha was missing stuff in order for the aircraft to work. We really won't see the TRUE picture until 2024 is released. These are just some things I have to begin making peace with - it's highly likely that we will have to pay to have our aircraft fully take advantage of the 2024 sim. It's simply tempering my own expectations.

Can you elaborate where you read that? I have searched their official forum (which isn't very active) but could not find that statement. Neither can I find it on their website.

Anyway, a 2024 version is different from just making the 2020 version compatible, which should be free IMHO for all customers. It would certainly influence any future purchases if they didn't.

Flightsim rig:
CPU: AMD 5900x  | Mobo: MSI X570 MEG Unify | RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo | GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3090 | Storage: M.2 (2 & 4 TB) | PSU: Corsair RM850x | Case: Fractal Define 7 XL
Display: Acer Predator x34 3440x1440 | Speakers: Logitech Z906
Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

So much premature nonsense.  This is just to stir up more negative side speculation.  There is a ton of new planes to explore and try out when it gets released, and highly unlikely to be crappy default like before but since Working Title has a big hand in it, they will be much better avionics wise.

Think it will only be a month or two before we see some payware converted to be working like it was in 2020 and a few more months to adapt to the new flight dynamics model and any other additional features.

If all this is unsatisfactory to anyone, then 2020 will be a great fallback to fly in the meantime.

So full spec upgrades, i.e utilizing everything that FS24 has to offer will come at cost, however compatibility updates don't.

It's essentially the same as re-doing an aircraft to utilize a new sim rather than a simple compatibility patch to support the new sim. This is entirely fair and what I expected of most devs.

Since I only fly the PMDG 737-600 at the moment, this will need to be compatible with MSFS 2024 before I think about making the switch.

PLEASE Be assured right now …
that if our products require “A little tweak here and there” etc to allow then to function in MSFS2024 then there will be no charge for the Aircraft transfer to 2024

However, “Compatibility Updates” such as mission status, Walkarounds, and other functionality we would need to “ADD”,
there will be Updated Products available at a Fair price for the work involved.

Clear ?

P.S. its all very much speculation until we actually receive the SDK and SIM Components

Can't remember the last time I got more than about 30 seconds viewing from any youtube (sim-related) video. Way too opinionated and badly made, most of them. I daresay there are good ones out there but life's too short.

In a few weeks time we'll get whatever we're going to get. Then we can see what's what.

There absolutely are good ones.

The problem is the many surrounding them who see the good ones and want to be as successful without being good. Sloppy sensationalism is usually the way they take.

But yeah, we'll see. Personally, I don't have doubts on this. The only aircraft that may not work out of the box (possibly) are those that require external programs.

FBW A320Neo systems wise, the only thing I found broken was MCDU Simbrief import. But you could still manually program in a flight plan fine.

Most of the click spots in the cockpit didn't work, you couldn't turn on the power from Cold & dark. But the actual functions those buttons preformed worked fine when using keybinds, if the function could be bound.

Spawning on the runway the landing gear was is mid position so you'd just fall on the ground, you had to slew and mess with the landing gear to get back up. But spawning at a parking spot the gear was fine.

All the EFB functions worked except panel state, and it was dark and the brightness slider did nothing.

But that was a tech alpha, maybe there were just things missing for proper backwards compatibility.

I don’t think so. They are already years late to msfs and they almost certainly know nothing more about the sdk than anyone else in 2024.

With them it is a real mystery.....hard to believe that there are no news whatsoever except usual NDA nonsense which everyone have....And if they come out with something one can real wonder what will be......

Much better than I would have expected. I would have been planning on it just crashing.

I suspect aircraft are going to be mostly fine from a compatibility perspective at launch - the bigger question will be how many devs try to get a few bucks for updating their planes to use 2024's new flight model surfaces and stuff, and how long it takes for those updates to start flooding out.

The one that might be more tetchy is the airports because of whatever changes happen to surrounding ground meshes, texture changes etc. between 2020 and 2024.  Some of them could conceivably need a little bit of actual work.

I know I know but a very unpopular opinion but if you buy a new game/sim and expect (3rd party) aircraft to function the same as in a previous game/sim on release than I don't know what to say, nether less and not expect an upgrade fee for a  new game/sim that you had to buy again and said (3rd party) developers have to invest time and resources to make their product compatible to the new game/sim status. There is also option B keep MS2020 installed as you see fit to use your favorite addons in the mean while. Plan B is my option for now.

One aspect of this update interests me. This is the first change of a streaming sim to a new version. There will be many 2020 users who are happy with that version where everything works for them and they have no desire to go through the update path.

Have Microsoft / Asobo indicated how long the 2020 streaming service will run for? Will that version be available to buy after November?

The base scenery between the two versions is presumably different given the new features.

Perhaps those in the know could confirm what the situation is regarding 2020 and its lifespan.
