Does airport aprons dry up 15 sec after rain stops ?

Featured Replies

It's definitely important, but it's SMALL important. Every plane pilots manual comes with a full list of take off /landing specs for dry /wet/snow /slush conditions for a reason.

Another reason why a weather api should be openly available for 3rd parties to see what miracles they can perform. This is definitely not something I'd ever expect to find modeled accurately in base sim.

why create puddles that appear and dry out and not make it a realistic timeframe? in two sim versions? 😄

not on the critical list, but is a perfectly valid criticism

If the time how long it takes for the ground to be fully dry again has become an issue , then we really have the best flightsim there is ….

I guess overhead opening bins and simulated toilet is more popular for it to be the best flightSIM 🙂

Is this your first flightsim software?

genuinely curious.

Nope, playing since early 90s.

As the title suggests, is this annoying behavior still a thing in MSFS2024 ?

The only time I ever saw that, was in preset weather when switching from weather with rain to weather without rain. And in that case it would be correct, right? Why should I have wet aprons when the weather is clear?

In live weather I never saw that and I would consider it a very rare edge case. Is there any video in YT that shows the phenomen with live weather on?

I never fly with presets, just live weather. It will show only DURING heavy rain. the moment the heavy rain stops or becomes just light rain the aprons gets dry in 10 to 15 sec

Live Weather is full of issues in MSFS2020, many arguably much more important than this particular one, so yes let's wait until MSFS24s official release to see if this one's still persists.

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

Sure it’s a small thing when compared to something like flight physics, but for me it sticks out like a sore thumb. Also you have those artistic scenery screenshots when a new airport comes out and they show wet surfaces - that’s just taking the pi$$ imo because you know you won’t be able to replicate that beyond a few seconds!

everyone is different - I was never bothered about tree height for example - whilst others lost sleep over it.

one day I'll have to fly long enough in XP12 to know if it's blighted in the same way, but I really like the apron water effects in XP

Those are features of the IFly 737 MAX, nothing to do with core MSFS features.

Honestly, if they advertise the novel ground handling being influenced by snow, rain etc., I doubt that wet tarmacs are dry after 10 seconds without any rain. Would not make much sense to include such a half-baked thing into the sim, no? Wait....

Exactly. I'd love to have realistic water evaporation rates from tarmac as much as the next guy, but if I'm choosing between that and improved framerates and physics modeling? No contest.

I think now with the forthcoming season implementation they should be able to inject wet as well as snow. If the snow can stay, so can the wet.
