MSFS doesn't start. I think I might just leave it.

Featured Replies

With just over two weeks to go until 2024, all of a sudden I can't start MSFS at all.  It gets to the main start up screen, the white circle starts to spin in the lower right and then it just freezes, eventually closing completely. It's never done this for me before but I can see that it has for others over the years.

I've tried everything suggested, stopping and restarting a few key apps, clearing caches, renaming folders, deleting others. I'm thinking my MSFS session this morning might just be my last ever. I'm not going to reinstall MSFS and will just wait for MSFS2024 now. Shame though.

It usually gets to the main start up screen just before the update check before freezing then crashing, but it can crash immediately too. Makes no sense. I've been working on it all day but I think I've had enough now.

Did you try a repair install? Not sure if it's the same for steam but store version:

Start - settings - apps - Microsoft Flight Simulator - advanced settings - repair  -  NOT reset.

It's not an App though if it came from Steam 🙂 (not one that can be repaired anyway)

FYI....I experienced that  last couple of weeks all of a sudden. I was getting error message "hung" either driver etc....I had to revert to old driver (last known stable, from August) and started running again. Day before yesterday same thing again happen and "event viewer" reported issue with MSFS couldn't find (or missing) .exe file. Also, after that was Couati, although that I don't think that GSX was a culprit....

I was using FSUIPC to start and thought maybe that's the issue...now I downloaded last driver and starting APP from MSFS direct...and still testing to see what is happening... It is very annoying!

The only thing I did yesterday was buy the FSReborn TL3000 which I flew a lot last night and for an hour or so early this morning. No other changes or new add-ons for ages. And all I have running at the same time is TDS. There are 101 things to try and I must have tried the lot today.

A long shot last ditch effort, just in case you haven't tried and are feeling desperate, just try disabing your internet connection before starting. If it works, you should be able to connect once the game has loaded the main menu.

And then if it does start with no internet, go to options and change the display settings to less resolution and windowed mode.

Another thing is to delete Usercfg.opt file so that MSFS will boot up in a default resolution.

C:\Users\tions\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator  is where that file is found.

The only reason MSFS ever fails to boot for me, is when it's trying to display a resolution that it cannot manage to do.

Sometimes when MSFS is booting, before it gets to the main startup screen, I click on the icon for windowed mode and drag the edges of MSFS window to a smaller size which I suppose does a similar thing.

Hi, I had a similar experience and the problem was due to Windows, not MSFS.

You may wish to Google to identify the problem.

$200? Why? You can get the Standard Edition for $60. Only get the more expensive editions if you really need/want them. The base edition is just fine if you are trying to save a buck or you already know you don't want the additional aircraft/airports.

You can also buy individual planes from the more expensive editions this time around. You don't need to buy a bunch of things you don't need.
