Where is the bin?

Recommended Posts

I have a very similar system (although I overclocked my E6850 to 3.8). I can hold 25 frames most of the time with LDS767. Something is obviously wrong but I cannot tell you what. Given that you have already spent all this money on a system you might consider spending $80 more at FS-GS. I have not used the service but many people I know rave about it.Mark.

The hotfixes are probably installed through Vista Update. Check your Add/Remove program, make sure Windows Updates is selected, then check to see if the hotfixes were indeed installed.Your system should definitely perform better than 8-15 fps. Your system is slightly better than mine (I have the dual core X6800 CPU overclocked to 3.7GHz) and I easily get solid 24 fps. I use the LevelD 767, Track IR and VC too. I could get higher but decided to make the max 24 fps. That works best for me. I also installed Vista RC1 and that could have helped my fps. The official SP1 is suppose to be released next month. Sorry I can't be more help on the configuration. Best regards,Jim

Don't give up. Just let getting it work become an unhealthy obsession like the bulk of us :)Pentium D 945 @ 4ghz, 2gb ram, 512mb 7900gs, windows XP.

You didn't mention settings in the nVidia Control Panel. One setting that brings my display to it's knees is Antialiasing-Transparency = Supersampling. I'm doing okay with multisampling.

Try turning off Bloom and set water to 2x low or lower.Bloom and 2.x water require FSX to render the entire scene an additional time before it's displayed because they are post processing effects. I think terrain shadows might too, but I can't remember.

>Try turning off Bloom and set water to 2x low or lower.>I agree, make sure bloom and ground shadows are off, and set water to low 2.x. Turning on bloom and max 2.x water will cut your frame rate in half. But if you are using the settings on that page I don't see how you could see such low frame rates, being it recommends sparse autogen and sparse scenery complexity. I have both of those at maximum and stay in the 30's most of the time, though in some places I drop autogen down to very dense.Make sure you have SP1 or SP2 installed, as that gives a 30-40% increase in performance.I've actually never been a fan of those recommended settings you posted. For the most part FSX settings need to be chosen around your CPU, not the GPU. Try using these and see if you get better results, although with an 8800 use anisotropic filtering and enabled AA. Using these settings, though with traffic turned completely off, I was in the 20-27fps range on my old single core 2.8Ghz Athlon, which was before SP1. With SP1 I was in the 27-35fps range. In a dense city like new york it was much lower though, like 20-25fps. http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/FSX_FPS_Guidehttp://ops.precisionmanuals.com/w/images/1...Fsxgraphics.jpghttp://ops.precisionmanuals.com/w/images/a...Fsxaircraft.jpghttp://ops.precisionmanuals.com/w/images/1/1a/Fsxscenery.jpghttp://ops.precisionmanuals.com/w/images/7/70/Fsxweather.jpghttp://ops.precisionmanuals.com/w/images/9/9f/Fsxtraffic.jpg

I haven't done much with the control panel. Antialiasing-Transparency is set to off. The only one I have changed is AA modus which I set to enhanced (by the program).

Thanks! Never heard about them before. Bookmarked. PC is under full warranty with 24 hr support, so I'll try that first when I get truly desperate. This PC is supposed to do OK.

I do have one advantage, though. I fly NG's for real.

I've tried that too, but it's not fun to look down on water that looks like it's frozen.

Sorry mate, the previous answer was to the poster above you. Thanks for the settings, just what I needed. I'll give the a try.I used the Nvidia setting because I really don't know what the different settings do when I change them.Nice guide, too! Thanks!Edit: There is one thing I'm not sure about. When I installd FSInn beta and Copilot on my last PC, it created massive problems for FSX. Is this a known problem? A shot in the dark, but...

Your settings gave me 10 fps on ground and 10-15 in the air, dropping to 10 when I entered clouds. Visually it was quite nice.It does run quite smooth at 10-15 but I'm not happy with the amount of money I've invested in this PC.I do have SP1 and 2.

What graphics drivers are you using?BTW, that's a known problem with FSInn/FSCopilot, FSX and the Level-D 763. FSInn makes some non-standard changes to your dll.xml in the same folder as your fsx.cfg file. It's been noted and a probable fix is in the Level-D forums.Regards,Jim Karn
