No early copies of MSFS2024 for reviewers

"Due to the availability of online services and the scope of the planned day-one patch update, Xbox will distribute review codes for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on the day of release rather than in advance. We want to avoid testers having unrealistic timelines for completing their reviews, so we have decided against a shortened testing phase. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be playable on November 19 at 5:00 p.m. CET."

Yeah. Got the same (Microsoft forgot we don't do reviews).

Good move. It would be pretty much useless to review the simulator before the services are up for everyone and hold the actual traffic they're supposed to hold. MMORPGs do exactly the same, and considering how heavily dependent this is from online services, it's pretty much an equivalent situation.

Of course, certain journalists are complaining, because all they care about is traffic and post-launch reviews usually get less of it.

Was already planning to fall back away from first adoption fever.  This is reinforcement of that decision.  Not a detractor here. Just am one who will be patient with this transition.  I have pre-purchased.

Also still concerned about parallel installation with MS 2020 and accumulated addons.  I rarely fly default aircraft and rarely fly into still-default airports. That sets the tone for transition for me.

Release is so close now, and the feedback from the preview event and technical alpha is there for everyone to see, so I am not sure how much use these reviews would have been anyway, and they would have to be quite in depth / long to cover all of the new features, so no big deal.

So now, we all get to 'review' it at the same time.

I suspect most people will just want to dive in themselves now, and the first thing most will want to check out is smoothness / performance for their specific setups.

It looks promising enough that I don't think any of us will need to be looking at any CPU / GPU upgrades, unless already struggling with MSFS2020 performance of course.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

For me I have seen all I need to see, it's obviously an improvement. The question is how will my thousands of dollars in addons play with the new platform.

I'll be getting the Premium Deluxe version. It's a little bittersweet since I already own many of the airplanes included.

Does anyone have a list of airports "shipping" with Premium Deluxe?  I can always find the airplane list but not the airports list.

They will be falling all over each other trying to get the first reviews out. I plan to wait a few days to see if there are any pitfalls uninstalling 2024, and the best way to figure that out is by monitoring this forum, not YouTube.

This isn't official, but it lines up with what Jorg has said, that a vast majority of them are remakes and updates of all the handcrafted airports that launched with the sim + all the World/City Updates

There are some new handcrafted airports, we know of two right now, LEBB and KGCN

Well KJFK and KASE revamps too, I guess.  So we still have no idea if they updated KSEA or KDEN or KDFW or LFPG... I guess we will find out in 9 days...

Le sigh.

They’re touching up all the handcrafted airports, but only a handful appear to getting big upgrades so far. The two you listed plus Queenstown and Innsbruck. They showed pictures in the grand canyon presentation

LFPG can be seen in the image with all the new AI aircraft models, didn’t appear to have any major changes, just better ground markings. But it’s possible it was still a WIP at that point.

Same with KLAX

edit: EIDL was also shown as overhauled

The lack of review copies, the lack of a beta, a day one patch, these things don't often bode well in gaming and going on MS/Asobos track history with poor Quality Control it could spell a dodgy release 👀

Still getting day one, but preparing myself for buggy mess, not being negative just realistic. I've seen enough game releases on day one to know, fingers crossed this one's a good one though, we'll soon find out🤞

They done all the discovery series etc with 2020, which I would’ve loved to see with 2024 also.

I was in tech alpha and it was great, but would like them to dive into the new features. I feel like it should’ve been marketed even more than 2020 with the whole new career mode and all.

I'm expecting the release to be full of bugs and that the servers will not be up to the job.  That's why it's on my list to Santa and I will be waiting until the 25th December.  It also gives me a month to watch all the reviews that will undoubtedly be coming out.

Looking forward to the new sim though, even if I know it will  have some teething issues.

For the record, I am getting the Premium Deluxe version.

Indeed they have and yet others have gone onto become massive flops!

I'm fearful about the potential issues but also hopeful that MS/Asobo know what they're doing moreso now than 2020s release 4 years ago. There really is little excuse for schoolboy errors, poor quality control management etc when they've had those four years to hone their skills + Asobos staff intake on top.

Still either way it's exciting, roll on next week.

And many that did have betas still went on to be massive flops too. What I'm trying to say is, this isn't a great metric to determine anything either way. Day one patches happen almost every time a game launches nowadays. I'm leaning to Asobo having a much better grasp of making sims and being confident in their work. The biggest issue i see in our future is the AI misinterpreting things as it tries to create ground scenery from satellite photos. This was very apparent in the tech alpha but also seen in the last Dev Q&A episode where a more recent build was probably in use.
