Will MSFS2020 and MSFS2024 peacefully coexist on the same hard drive?  I was assuming it would be ok and I would only one run sim at a time but I wasn't sure if there are any known issues with this.

My plan is to keep 2020 up and running while also using 2024 until such time that some (hopefully most) of the addons I'm currently flying (Fenix, most Blacksquare products, COWS DA42, Maddog, PMDG) are ported across to 2024 and working well enough.

Thanks - Kevin

Yep. That's what I'll be doing.

And on a similar theme , does it matter with performance or anything else if it’s not on the C  system drive ?

Ive got 3 x 2TB  SSD but the C is getting a little full, the other 2 are half empty

Don't think it matters in terms of performance.

I just deleted a lot of unnecessary stuff on a non-C drive that I intend to put 2024 on. It's not the fastest drive that I've got, but since it's a thin client I suppose the speed of the SSD doesn't matter that much.

I have decided to use a 4TB m.2 Lexor on an external USB4 enclosure using my onboard 10Mb/S output - Strix Z-790F Mobo.  I have, for the last couple of weeks been using my MSFS 2020 Community Folder contents on a 1.5GB Partition and have found it to be entirely acceptable.  I also have a Mini PC with a gen 14 I5 processor and 4 USB4 [Thunderbolt] outputs. I am going to use a 2nd Partition for MSFS 2024 which will leave quite a chunk of "spare" space to, perhaps, carry the Rolling Cache for each Sim.  I am also doing to try this drive on the Mini PC to determine if this can handle the installations and, if so, will look at an external powerful GFX card.  My main system has a 13th Gen I7 with a 4090, but that draws a large quantity of mains power. We shall see.

Very Best Wishes,

Dr T. Maurice Murphy

Same drive is no problem but a separate location for the community folder is probably best.

Of course they're completely different programs.

Nope, not in the slightest.  If your system drive is modern/fast and amply big enough there is no good reason to split your installs up. Way back when it was HDD there was some modest potential benefit to separate OS and sim but now, especially with how 2024 will stream, it's just not there.  I have ALL operating programs and OS on the same m.2 2Tb drive which makes backups/clones ultra simple.  Moreover and this is critical:  I almost NEVER see any stutters anywhere.

Yeah if you got the space then why not - I'm probably going to do same thing. Will be buying a 4TB SSD on new PC and I'll have P3D, MSFS 2020 & MSFS 2024 on same drive. Typically I keep my drives organised, One drive specifically for flight sims, another drive for any other games purchased via Steam and finally one drive to keep my windows installation.

MSFS is called 'Microsoft Flight Simulator' while MSFS2024 is called 'Limitless' inside the C:\XboxGames folder.

Some bold statement there if the name isn't going to change when it releases :uwe_merm:

Just keep in mind that there were several reports of people having to reinstall 2020 after using 2024.

The tech alpha destroyed my MSFS2020 install. This is the one thing I will be waiting on feedback for before I jump into the new sim, as I foresee having both sims installed for some time.
