An Appeal to Asobo on the Cusp of 2024

Featured Replies

2024 is almost upon us and we're all very excited but there are a couple of things that happened with 2020 that I do not want to see repeated in the new sim

1. Visual Downgrades

Asobo, please don't do this to us again. Keep the clouds thick and keep the trees visible to the horizon. By all means, keep the sim optimized but do not do so at the cost of graphical fidelity. Let us have the choice to set everything exactly how we want. I'd rather choose to upgrade my rig to get more performance with all the bells and whistles than have you permanently take those options away in the name of optimization.

2. Dumbing Down Realism

We're flight simmers. Most of us are not pilots, have not even done a discovery flight and don't work in the aviation industry. In most instances, we have no idea what we're talking about! For that reason, please do not follow our every whim. Do not make turbulence and icing largely inconsequential just because a bunch of us complain that it makes flying too difficult. Go with the consensus of your experts. Do not be afraid to tell us when we're wrong. Realism over everything!

I may be making a fuss over nothing because you guys have shown signs of this already being your ethos moving forward but I'm still saying it just in case. 2024 is shaping up beautifully and I can't wait for the 19th!

What is the purpose of "appealing" to Microsoft.

You are indeed fussing about nothing because Microsoft isn't going to change anything at this point. The product is far to close to release!

I seriously doubt anyone at Microsoft even reads this forum.

Well Jorg has said a few times that they read everything and this is a pretty well known website. I've also heard him make references to things that were discussed here. In any case, it is something we can talk about even though they don't see it.

Well then.....It's not really an appeal to Microsoft.

Also, I'm skeptical to believe anyone at Microsoft has the time to peruse through this web site for much advice. They have there own forum for one .

They'll do exactly the same thing they did with MSFS2020, because it worked (-> sales). So expect visual downgrades and dumbed down realism. The changes in MSFS 2024 that would affect (airliner) hardcore simmers are so rare and in-between that it's safe to assume we're at the bottom of the list.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Oh yeah, silly me! I completely forgot Asobo has no intention of ever updating 2024 after it releases.

That's so true. Which is exactly why they added really high quality default airliners to their lineup and they had the audacity to include a robust flight planner with LIDO charts. I really don't know what on earth MS/Asobo was thinking there!

1) It's *one* high quality default airliner - if at all, the A320neo from inibuilds is not what I'd call high quality (although it's good for a free default aircraft, don't get me wrong) and it's safe to assume the A330 will be similar, since it's not sold separately by iniBuilds like their A300 or upcoming A350.

2) LIDO charts are not really needed for hardcore simmers because hardcore simmers have Navigraph charts (which cover 7000 airports compared to the 1000 of the LIDO charts, so unless a hardcore simmer wants to fly without charts many times - which I doubt -, LIDO charts are not going to affect a hardcore simmer in any meaningful way).

3) Also if you really want to contradict my statement you need to actually make a list with changes that are relevant to hardcore simmers and those relevant to non-hardcore simmers. You'll find one list is significantly shorter than the other, so my statement "rare and in-between" would be true.

Guys, we know exactly what we'll get with MSFS2024: An improved, extended, built-upon version of MSFS2020 - and that's fine! I love MSFS2020 and can do my hardcore simming with it just fine. But I'm not going to illude myself that this will be any different from how MSFS2020 progressed over time.

They don't listen on their own forums what chance have we got here!? 😆

I've said it before and people get upset.

It's on Xbox, it's a game for Microsoft!!!

Call it s Sim if you want to but seeing video marketing on the current MSFS Home page it definitely comes off as a game to me! The missions appear to be very child like!

Here's a list of improvements that applies to airliner simmers (who apparently are also hardcore ™️simmers), to begin with:

  • ground handling
  • flight dynamics
  • atmospheric lighting
  • clouds and weather
  • atmospheric airflow simulation (regular and wake turbulence)
  • multi-threading
  • etc

oh, and everything that Seb shared about core sim improvements starting here: https://youtu.be/fp4a3hPwP4s?t=962

So your statement "the changes in MSFS 2024 that would affect (airliner) hardcore simmers are so rare and in-between that it's safe to assume we're at the bottom of the list." seems quite far from the truth (per all what MS/Asobo have said, and per all what folks have seen in both the global private preview and tech alpha drivers).

Hardcore simmers? What's that? Is there a t-shirt to go with this. 😇
